I've got one myself with 31's and love it. It kinda sucks on the highway as far as acceleration goes, but it will maintain highway speeds easily. It performs great offroad, just as well as a 6 cyl. I love the automatic. I get horrible gas mileage for a 4 cyl, but that's jeep, so I'm not complaining. I paid 5500 for mine with 96k miles on it. I love the thing, I say if it runs well go for it. If you want to run big tires, you'll have to regear but again, 31's run great with my 3.73 gears, which you probably have. Hopefully welcome to the jeep family.:D:2thumbsup:

What is your MPG? Thinking of getting a TJ or an XJ. My son has an XJ,had a CJ5 project,I have a J10 now and used to have a YJ. Can't get enough Jeeps!!

my mpg is probably 12-14 on highway, 10 street, but the whole engine could use some work to clean it up. Definately go for the TJ, there's nothing like being able to wheel with the top off. Just my .02

Didn't 4cy TJs come stock w/4.10 gears? Or is that manual trans?

I have a 97 TJ Sport with a 4.0 and an auto. I have 30's running on a 3.07. I zip around pretty good on country roads and off road. On the highway I have just enough power to be safe. I think a 4 banger with an auto might be a mistake. I drove lots of 4's before I settled on the six. No regrets at all, even if I had to pay more. Just my 2 cents.

I've got an 02 with a I4 and an auto trans. It sucks running on the highway with all the mountains her in North East PA, but it's great around town. Off road, I've never had a problem. I'm only running 235 BFG A/T's.
