Hello guys, for holes in the firewall with wires going through them, what do you use to insulate against fumes from the engine? could use silicone from the hardware store, is there something for automotive applications?

Most of the holes in my 96 4.0 firewall have rubber grommets for the wires to go through so the sharp metal doesn't cut into the wires.

Anything labeled Permatex is automotive and most of their sealers/gasket makers have silicone in them. They make a clear or you could use the ultra black I use for about anything.

If you're getting fumes in the cabin from engine compartment you may want to check to make sure you don't have the cracked header at the tube welds the 4.0 is notorious for. Also check donut/connection between header/down pipe and make sure you don't have oil leaking on your exhaust.
