I have a 1980 CJ7 258 auto. My Frankinjeep's previous owner put a painless wiring harness. I wanted to remove it and replace it with a factory harness. On two different occasions I removed the painless harness to do major work on the tub, but ultimately I put the painless harness back in because it really was far superior to the factory harness. My only issue is despite a new neutral safety switch it will still start in drive and reverse

Update to Painless harness

As it turned out the neutral safety switch issue was because PO put the wrong solenoid in. It needed an solenoid for an automatic transmission and PO put a solenoid for a standard transmission. There is a difference, and to be fair I didn't know either until I did the research. I changed the solenoid and it worked.

They all work the same, just make sure the wiring is GXL wire. As for cost, EZwiring is by far the less of them all, they just don't have a bunch of "custom" kits. Their 21 circuit will fit just any vehicle out there and give you room to expand.

First question though, how are your electrical skills? Do you know how to properly use a voltmeter and read schematics?
