just thought it would be a neat idea if someone could start a thread with only pics and info on home mods. write-ups wouldn't have to be included but a link to one would be nice if it is available. if someone likes the idea, start it up!
That's the point, so would they. How many thieves do you think would think to trace the cluch line to try to find the defeat switch? And yet, it is still easy to switch on and off at will.TJ-Marine PA said:Couldn't they just pull the clutch safety switch fuse from the fuse panel? Not knocking the overall design or saying that most thieves would think of that but I would recommend putting the kill switch in a more disabling circuit like the starter circuit w/ a relay or the ignition switch circuit.
I guess the only thieves you would have to worry about are ones that have had jeeps. A fail safe method for this switch might be to make it so the switch enables two or more relays controlling systems vital to starting. They might find one of the overrides but not all.sardog12 said:That's the point, so would they. How many thieves do you think would think to trace the cluch line to try to find the defeat switch? Or just buy a hood lock then there is no looking under the hood at all. :thumbsup:BradG said:put a blown fuse in the clutch override slot so when they go to check that (assuming they know anything about Jeeps, they'll hopefully not be able to figure it out).
I believe the ADE controls the fuel pump system and, correct me if I'm wrong, the starter circuit.TJ-Marine PA said:I guess the only thieves you would have to worry about are ones that have had jeeps. Another great mod that I heard for this is... thumb tacks in cup holder, ashtray, and glove box...You are all probably going to think this is super dorky, but there's an explanation.
I live in the city. Unfortunately I've seen a few cars on my street on my bike ride into work that were robbed, from Civics with no wheels sitting on piles of newspapers to Wranglers with slashed soft tops. People will break into your car here for thirty cents on your floor. They often just "scoop" your glovebox contents into a bag and run.
I'm always worried about people just scooping the registration, then I'd have to run to the RMV to wait an hour and a half to spend $15 to get a new one. This is a pretty stupid mod but it works.
I used sticky velcro to stick my registration to the bottom of my glovebox. It won't get thrown out accidentally, won't get scooped, and it's just out of the way. Put a golf pencil in there in case I ever have to fill out that accident report form. Here's a pic:
Yeah, dorky, but it works.

Do you have pics of this? Also where did you search for the free hardtop?I made a "trail hardtop" out of a old hardtop.
I had been looking forever for me a damaged top with no windows. I finally got one best part it was FREEE!!! Now I can drive long distance somewhere on a highway with out being deaf from the wind, and then pull the top by my self and go trail riding topless.
This hard top won't flutter in the wind like a soft top(much quieter)
Front "legs" of top now will unbolt at the tub and unbolt from the top.
Rear "legs" are gone.
When I get to where i am going wheeling I just go by this.
If the weather is nice remove top and doors and take into motel room, so they are there when I get back to room.
If the weather is great take it all off.
If weather is just OK, take doors off leave top on.
If weather sucks, leave it all on.
All you have to do is to cut the lfront legs where there is a factory seam in the fibreglass. Then cut off the rear legs even with the top of the side windows and cut the bottom rail off completly.
Take two pieces of small angle iron and bolt the front legs back on and make a bracket to bolt it to the roll bar in the back.
I love the regular hard top and steel doors on my jeep as it make it much warmer in the winter and quieter on the highway for long trips.
ummm i think it came with some bracket at radio shack...frankiejr said:End clicky.
What did you use for the bolt? (Please excuse me if that sounds stupid, I just don't have a CB yet and have been looking at mounts lately thinking about what to do when I get one soon...)
Where did you get them little fog lights in the skid plate.Thorty said:homemade front skid plate with some Hella Micro Fog / HID-driving lights:

These are "Hella Micro DE", you can find them at ebay. Actually Hella headquarter and production plant is located only 20 miles from my home (and they sell great high quality stuff)...highrisetj39.5 said:Where did you get them little fog lights in the skid plate.
