So i have been reading back over the years and years of knowledge on this site.I have ready about HDE distributors, nutter bypass, Team Rush ford parts upgrade, and many other upgrades.

In doing the reading it seems like the biggest return one could get on any of these is the ability to do a "post nutter bypass wire removal" and clean up a bunch of the wires from your engine compartment.

That brings me to my questions. What is the current thinking on the different methods of getting spark? Is team rush still generally accepted as a good low risk upgrade? Do we have a more current parts list? What is the wire du jour? Assuming e-coil off ford is still preferred.

What about common thinking on the CDI module? MSA 6a digital looks good to me.

What is the end result with the vacuum lines and timing advance?

The final question and the goal of the Mod... What wires will still need to exist? My Carb needs a wire for the choke. I know I need a tach adapter for my factory tachometer. I will not need the OEM ignition module. I can remove the emissions computer anymore. I think there may be more wires in the ECM than just what was bypassed. I think the reverse lights swich is in that bundle. Anything else?

After this is done, What else would be needed? having the timing re-adjusted?

The nutter bypass and related wire removal is well documented. There's no need to duplicate that info, here.

In my mind the only problem with the Team Rush upgrade is it utilized the Duraspark/Motorcraft distributor. They aren't built new, anymore, so a remanufactured unit is about your only option, if your original OEM unit is shot. I haven't had great luck with remanufactured Motorcraft distributors.

Also, if your OEM distributor is the computerized version, it has a very limited advance curve. You can recurve it, but some folks aren't comfortable diving into the innards of a distributer. Other aftermarket distributors, like the MSD, make customizing your advance curve much easier.

Personally, I like my the separate components of a CDI system. My all MSD ignition has performed flawlessly. Some prefer the "all in one" nature of a HEI system and its easy one-wire installation. Honestly, I don't think there is any significant performance difference between the two systems on a Jeep engine.

Fill out your profile, so we know what you are working with.

Ok. So after much thought and reading. I think I am going to go with the HEI all-in-one, DUI. I like the idea of one wire. I think I am going to be able to clean the whole place up allot.

This is what I am nervous about….
1) I have never had to adjust the timing on the jeep. This will be new for me, but also something I think I should know how to do. Learning this will be a positive for me.
2) The factory Tachometer. I am planning on using the red wire that runs to the existing ignition module, so I think the Tac is still in line and will still work.
3) The four wire connector for transmission wire harness. Worried about removing too much and not being able to get that cleaned up.
4) Electronic choke, temperature, ,ect…. Just worried about removing too many wires.

I rewired my last jeep (C3B) and it looked much better than before. I love the look of a clean, organized engine compartment. That is my goal. I know my wires are old and I think upgrading the spark will help in general, although no specific issues.

The next project after this is leaning house to work on the carb. Again, no issues, just want to lean it.
