I suppose I've been on here long enough to warrant a build thread on my XJ

the goal of this XJ is to ge a rockcrawler. its not there yet, its not even close. but I'm in college, working as hard as I can and learning as much as I can.

things are starting to pick up.

it al started with a RE 3.5" SF lift a Rusty's 1" drop transmission crossmember, and a Rusty's tie-rod conversion

here is how it sat, stock tires; just about 4.5" of lift netted.

after a few months, I went with 33x1050 on some pro-comp 1069. no fender trimming: bad idea.

Took it to big bear CA and wheeled on some trails.

its actually 4" of stretch with the lift. its 104" at ride height

the reason that's as far back as I went is thats where the rear dif begins to hit the tank.

I set it up to fit a 40" tire with a couple more inches of stretch, but that will require raising the tank. which I will do when it comes time for that.

ah the joys of wheeling a cherocar. not having the 2 bottom bolts in the motor mount turns out is not a good plan.

repair time

cut out all of the affected area, both outside and bottom of the unibody completely. replaced all of it with 3/16".
there is also a 3/16" inner plate that is welded to the bottom and the inner part of the unibody that extends from the first steering box bolt all the way to the motor mount. also added a 3/16" stiffener that runs all the way down the bottom to the LCA mount. and is tied in to the rest of the HD offroad frame stiffener

i see you have a bar from passengar side to driver side track bar mount. did that also break off? i see it has been cut in the last picture. nice job putting everything back together!
Yes. It tore.

My opinion is that it was really the only thing holding the bracket in the right spot and eventually leverage overcame it and it tore.

Now that everything has been replaced and the outer section has been welded to the inner section that won't happen.
