Sport bars MOPAR # 82209622

The Sport Bars are very easy to install with the instructions provided. Everything is plainly marked with a label of some kind. The kits comes with a front and rear bar, 4 keyed alike locks with 4 keys and a special anti-theft type Torx wrench.

You start by removing the locks and pealing up the rubber seal on top of the bars to locate the Torx screw. Loosen the screw enough to allow the clamp to hook on the inside of the roof rail in one of the 4 areas molded into it. With the hooks in place and the bar centered, tighten down the screws until Bar is secure. Repeat for second bar. Press the rubber seal back down into place and attach the end locks. That’s it, you’re done!

I got these from Keith at Mechanicsville Dodge, VA dba mopar4less on eBay Excellent service!

I actually just finished installing mine too. I’m extremely happy with them. The 150lb capacity is very high for a roof rack system. Simple to install and the locking end caps are just great.

Gramps,
You may want to consider changing the position you choose to install the bars. Try using the rear most slot and the slot second from the front. This provides a much more level base. It also keeps your loads from being tipped towards the front of the vehicle and more into the wind. All of the pictures provided from Mopar show the rack in the position I am referring to as well.

Hmmm. My instructions sheets (K6859549) all show the 1st and 3rd bar but I'm sure you're right on the level load. They're just for looks right now. What other pictures did you find?

Actually my instructions are the same as yours. I'm pretty sure you can put the bars in any of the four slots you want. It's just a matter of what you're hauling. Besides all the reasons I already stated for why I mounted mine the way I did. You should also notice that the front bar is directly over your moonroof. By moving the bars back you would not have that issue.

I can't post pictures yet. But check the links below and check the position of the bars. The pictures are from Mopar.

Also I ordered my bars from the same place you did, and was very happy as well.

I'll post the pics for all to see. Yup, there are 4 slots available and I didn't care for it being right over the sunroof but it came in handy for one of the pictures, he, he. I didn't check for level because they weren't going to be used right away. Certainly a good idea to check before loading. I'm not sure how far off they'll be from one position to another.

Gramps,

Thanks for the pictures of the sport bars.... I was wondering how they were attached. I just got my compass last week but I plan on picking up a set of the sport bars.
Hey! Congrats on your purchase! Tell us more about it, please.

This probably isn't the proper thread for this but since you asked....

Compass Sport 4X2
Jeep Green metalic
26e package
Speed control
Yes essentials fabric

I looked at alot of different small SUV type vehicles in my search but the Compass just had all the right features for me. I'm very pleased with it so far , we'll see how it fares when I pass 100,000 miles.

I wish they came with the rails stock.
Ya, and a receiver and a wiring harness and the tow package and ....., but there goes the base price. Guess I'm just happy that the stuff is available and I don't have to make payments on those things too.:D

Good 'nuf, thanks! You could plop it into your "Profile" and maybe start a "Gallery" if you have access to that yet. I do wish that others would post more on their profiles, I'd love to know what others have and be able to refer back if needed!

Welcome aboard, in case I didn't say that yet! Always glad to 'see new faces", he, he.

Angle of Bars in different positions:

Position 1 and 3 is 4 degrees tilt toward the front, 33 ½ inch span.
Position 2 and 3 is 1/2 degrees tilt toward the front, 17 inch span.
Position 2 and 4 is 0 degrees, 34 ½ inch span.
Position 1 and 4 is 2 degrees tilt toward the front, 51 inch span.

The full width of the Bars is 46 ¾ inches and has 150 lb capacity (previously mentioned by alwayslearnin).

I used a nice straight 4 X 4 for my level surface, including on the ground that came out to 0 degrees, and an Angle Finder that has a tolerance of +/- .5.

For carrying large flat items, I prefer a forward tilt to decrease the chance of wind lift. On other items it may be immaterial since the tilt is minor. I do like the Bar not being over the Sunroof  .

Any curvature that you see is from the lens.

now all you need is some nice big hella's up there and you're good.

BTW. if anyone actually wants to put some nice big hella's up there, then look for the subaru kit that has the two hella 500's and the proper attatchments for their roof rack, it should work out pretty well with OEM fitment.
PTC Factory outlet on ebay is a good place to get them.

to my knowledge, Mopar has still got the roof bars for Calibers on recall and refuses to grant us some. I'm beginning to get PO'ed.

I found this info by doing a Google on the part numbers.

Listed as the Cross Rails.
82210804 Patriot Roof Rack Cross Rails. These use a clamp type mount and can be slid fore and aft to adjust. Similar to these shown on the Liberty.

Listed as the Sport Utility Bars
82209622 Compass. Just like the ones on mine.

82208614AB Dodge Magnum Brushed Aluminum, some sites (including MOPAR) also show this for the Patriot which I believe to be incorrect.

thats what i thought, but just wanted to make sure they it wasnt for the compass. again ur infinite wisdom has been useful.

here's some updated pics of my Compass with the Sport Bars and my Leather Wheel with Cruise Control.......
What did the sports bars run? I think I want to get a set and I can use my Thule bike trays with them. Are they easy to put on and take off? If I leave the rack on the car it will kill the gas mileage. If it is easy to put on and off, then I might go that route.

i've left my Sport Bars on since i first installed them. i consistantly get 20+mpg and usually better. i'm sure once the weather gets better too, so will my mpg's.

and i agree with "Gramps" on the positioning of the bars...i've been hauling 2x4's, interior doors and a ladder on mine and i didn't want any chance of 'lift' so i installed them the same as he did in his first pic.

sorry, wrong forum.......i didn't think "rob_rector" would see my response elsewhere......;)

You guys are awesome!!!!

do a search for Hella 500 subaru and you'll find another auction

I was thinking this would be cool if you picked up a third sport bar for the front most position (other than it would then block the sunroof :( ) then you could use the last two positions with the roof basket
