I have an 08 overland with the 5.7 hemi. Im new to the jeep world and fairly new to the mechanical world as well. If anyone has any advice for some simple mods i could do to get my feet wet it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
the jeep is my daily driver. Mostly street but she may see the occasional offroad trail. Im not looking for anything massive, I'm just looking to make her look mean and turn the occasional head every now and then
I'm pretty much in the same boat, but I've got the 3.7 Laredo. I was thinking brush guard, running boards, and chip to start. Suspension upgrades to follow, but beyond that, I'm not exactly sure what else can be done by me in my condo parking lot.
was in the same boat as you guys and after having my WK lifted and taking it back to stock- I must say I am pretty happy with my relatively stock set up. just some food for thought- go with an aggressive tread AT, maybe some bilsteins for a small boost in height and better handling(WK handling is so spongy). just to give you an idea- heres where im at:
If your not doing any serious off-roading I did 5100 bilstiens, srt sway bars and Bwoody end links. Dramatically changed the handling. Superchip with trans app. CAI and 180 Tstat. You have the hemi so Diablo works as well. Get a set of good tires and you should be set. Here is a pic of mine
I also had to keep the Mods for my WK more towards the "beginner" side of things. Don't get me wrong I would love to have a beast of a Jeep comparable to the likes of "The Bison" :drool: :bowdown: but sadly my mechanical expertise ends at fluids and filters out:
I can never seem to keep a vehicle completely stock. Here are a few of the easier things that I did... Maybe they will help you and get you thinking about how you can make it your own...
-De-Badged Front & Rear
-Grille Inserts
-Color Match Headlight Bezel
-Stubby Antenna
-Added MOPAR Mud Flaps... A lot of guys remove these and the front Chin Spoiler as the first mod if you're gonna be wheelin' it
-Color Match Door Moldings
-Front Window Tint
-Tail Light Tint
-JK MOABS off CraigsList... Tons of Jeep wheels out there for a great price
-1.5" RC Wheel Spacers
-Definitely go with an aggressive tire even if it's a pavement princess like mine. I love my new Goodyear DURATRACS
Medic, how do those 245/70's work clearance-wise? I love the tread and look and have a set of Spidertrax spacers I haven't got around to installing yet, but I'm in the market for a new set of tires and want something more aggressive than stock. Also, plastidip on the chrome wheels? LOVE IT.
I have mine at 3/4 lowest setting in the front You can 3/4 in to 2inch in the front. I am stock height with srt sway bars and Bwoody end links. No spacers With 255/65/17 tires. I am not sure on the spacers. Maybe someone can chime in with wider tires
can anyone offer me advice on wheels? i have 18 inch wheels on my 08 overland right now. With my 3 inch HD OME lift on the way, i would like to get new wheels and tires. at the very least new tires. But would i be able to change the size of the wheels or do i have to stick with 18's? any advice on tires would be helpful too! thank you guys!
Check out the WK/XK Wheel & Tire Combination Thread... Lots of good information on different applications. Guys are running 17's, 18's even 20's, I could be wrong but I believe most if not all 5x5 (5x127mm) Jeep wheels are compatible with the WK (maybe even WK2 wheels). Backspacing may be an issue but easily overcome if you pick up a set of quality hubcentric spacers.
Find out your max tire size with the lift you are running... convert it to inches and play around from there... The smaller the diameter of rim the larger the sidewall and vice versa... Usually larger wheels and tires with smaller sidewalls tend to cost a bit more
So I should be purchasing a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with 3.7L V6 with only 43k miles later this week.
I currently have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that I have a 2" Daystar Budget Boost for and some aftermarket headlights and tail lights and I never actually had the lift installed because I didn't plan on keeping the Jeep for as long as I have and figured I'd save it for the next one. My main uses/goal with this build is for it to be my daily driver, but I like to do some occasional mild off-roading so I want to do a simple build and there isn't much info regarding the Daystar lift so I was hoping someone who has a little more expertise than myself could help me out with making the correct choices in achieving my goal and assist me through the process of doing some of the work myself since I'm trying to do this with a limited budget. But here are some of the things I need info on at the moment:
-With the 2" Daystar lift, what are the biggest tires I can fit without any kind of trimming or mods?
I was thinking going with 265/70r17 BF Goodrich AT tires but may go a more cost effective brand tire, same size.
-I'd also like to remove my aftermarket LED headlights from my current Jeep and put them on the new one myself but I don't know anything about wiring for that or really know anything at all about doing that and was hoping someone had a link maybe to a good video that may help but they are just Spyder Halo LED headlights.
-I also want to install a 20" light bar in the small gap in the bumper and would like any info on the process of mounting and wiring that.
Thats pretty much all for now but once I actually purchase and start making progress with it I'll keep updating.
