Discussion on Lift Installation Tips

I thought after all of us have installed various brands/types/sizes of lifts, that we should have a discussion regarding tools you wish you had to help you install your lift. Use this thread to list pieces you really wish you had and what vehicle and lift you were trying to install.

When I was installing my BDS 3.5" on my YJ, I really wished that I had tall tall jackstands with a wide platform underneath and a taller floorjack for the axle. Also various deep-socketed large size wrenches would have been nice.

Tips: Don't bother with a pickle fork when trying to remove your pitman-arm, just get one of these:: Pitman arm puller
autozone carries a different version of this that is wide-jawed and can ben used for ball-joints as well. makes it much much easier..

Installing leaf spring axle shims is easier when you have two or more clamps to hold the pack together so you can unbolt the center stud and position the shim underneath it.

You don't *need* two people to install a lift, but it sure is handy to have a 2nd person with his own set of tools, makes certain bolts easier to install and remove, as well as bolting skid plate pans back to the frame.

Hello all, I drive a 4.0L, automatic, completely stock '04 TJ. I am a noob when it comes to suspensions. I use my TJ mostly on road but would like to take it off roading, say 2 times a month. I want to lift it about 4 inch, what would be a good suspension kit for me with a budget of $2000?

Higher leafs in the rear?

Asking for your opinion and expertise. So I will start out by saying that I am using my Jeep as an overlanding vehicle, so I will be loading that back with quite a bit weight with every trip I take. And in addition to that I will be putting in a small audio system, with extra storage space cabinets in the rear. Which, just off the top of my head, will be probably around 200lb. So I will be going with a 3.5" rubicon express lift. So I'm wondering if you guys would suggest putting on 4.5" rubicon express leaf springs in the back? Thanks!

Lift Kit and Chrysler Warranty

Recently purchased 2015 Unlimited Sport (first wrangler) and am novice on everything. I want to put a lift on it but am afraid if I go outside the dealership/Mopar parts and labor that this will void the manufacturer warranty. The lift is 2x what I can get from Les Schwabb and installed. I want to do 3" lift and 33" tires and no spacers. Please help.

Top tip, these posts are as relevant on my suspension re&re in 2015 as they were in 2003. All good stuff and I will add a sawzall for the busted bolts that were seized into the hiems of my rear lower control arms. Once a bolt is busted in there and frozen to the ball... cutting is the only way. Thanks for this thread all of you. Ratchet straps also saved my a$$ a couple of times.

 It might be a little hard to steer. It still has the track bar and sway bar attached, I wonder why? You need to put some 40s on it and run it through the mud. Replace the diff fluid first.:rofl::rofl:

I know it's an old post. But this is the first time I saw it.

Ok, stupid question...

I just got a 99 WJ, first 4x4 since I had to get rid of my wagoner after the my daughter, the first born came. She just turned 30...

I was thinking of just a BB, but is it worth it? Or Should I look into the kits that come with new springs?

I don’t intend to go much higher than 2” anyway. And just intend for mild hill and trails. BTW, it has KYB gas shocks on it now, but they have seen there better days, but it only has 115,000 original miles on it.

Any opinions would be appreciated!

Is $4000 a reasonable budget for a garage to add 4” procomp lift, (5) 33” tires, bumper, grille, and winch? It’s on a almost stock 2002 Jeep Wrangler TJ

Would i save money buying my own parts and having them do install?

Do you have any suggestions for parts?

Thanks in advance

Stop talking to 4 Wheel Parts. They will sell you nothing but garbage from their affiliate companies.

Go over to the TJ Tech section. Use the search function. There will be hundreds of threads on lift kits and builds for TJs. You'll probably save some money and end up with better equipment.

Would you have suggestions for parts you prefer. These are all parts i did research on, I'm not even sure who you're referencing when you say "4-wheel".
He's talking about this place.

https://www.4wheelparts.com/

I don't know much about TJ lifts, and I rarely buy from 4WPs. But 11 years ago I had to buy a set of YJ front leaf springs fast. I got a set of Procomp 4" springs from 4WPs. And they were ok. But just a over a month ago, one of them snapped. I sent an email to them about their life time warranty. 10 minutes later I got a call(I put my number in the email). Joe said he'd send, to my house, two new Procomp springs with all the bushings. I'm now back on the road with new springs. And yes, 4WPs owns Procomp, but they will sell you anything you want.

Not sure where you did research that you decided Procomp was a good choice, but it definitely wasn't here. As I said, go over to TJ Tech, search and read. This topic has been beat to death.

Also really need to know a lot more to make recommendations - how do you use your jeep, what is your budget, etc., etc.

Budget $5-7k for everything, granted I do all the work myself. I’d like to have 33” tires (open to suggestions), 3.5-4.25” lift, bumper/grille, winch, and maybe some LEDs. Mainly spare daily but will definitely be on the beach and in trails(pine barrens w/ mud, water, sand). It will be manual trans...yes I have done my research about manual trans off-road and I still would prefer it. I’m thinking a 4.10 gear ratio
