Power window troubles

Hey guys looking for some help or point me in the right direction.

2000 XJ

One day all of my power windows completely stopped working. Mirrors also don't work as well as driver side door lock.

I took out the driver switch and saw some burned contacts so I ordered a new switch. Put that in, didn't fix the problem.

Passenger switch has green light on the door locks which work, but no green light on window switch. All other windows have no green light.

Have 12 volts on the passenger side harness going to the passenger switch.

Every single fuse in the car is good I checked them all.

I can't understand the schematic for this.. Is there a relay or something not shown in the manual? Is my passenger switch screwed?
Any help is appreciated, all I've figured out to this point is that the power originates on the passenger side.

Sick of jumpering my windows open and closed at the motors with a piece of 14/2 romex =)

Which one are you looking at, the 87 or the 93?

The power windows are very straightforwad, a series of switches and wires to a motor in the door that through a track moves an arm up and down to open and close the windows. The switch is powered and all it does is reverse the polarity when it feeds the power to the motor.

It is not uncommon to find a motor problem, sometimes corrosion in the motor or the electrical connectors rusted off. Sometimes there is a track problem due to not being lubricated an sometimes the glass gets stuck. Mostly it is the dumb switches.

From your post I presume the other 3 windows work so it is not a curcuit breaker issue or a general problem at the driver's dooor switch panel.

There are two switches, one on the driver's door and one on the door itself. I presume neither are working.

Taking the passener side door switch first. These are the tests to make sure the switch itself is working when removed from the door and then you can test the connector inside the door.

You should have power coming in on that second row of pins, if teh diagram is correct whcih I have doubts about. Test the connector, I use a 12V test lamp for theis sort of stuff but a multimeter will also work. You are lookinh for 12V across the second row of pins. If you do not have it your problems are further back.

If you find voltage and really really want to jump it you will need two short pieces of insulated wire with the ends bared. Looking at the connector to go UP bridge between top right and middle right and then bottom right and middle left.

If it still does not go remove the door trim and go to the connector to the motor. You can test at this point for voltage. If you have it then it is the motor or mechanism or glass.

Great info! I have been looking all day for the specifics covered. The jeep is a 93 Sport and the original problem had been wires worn through under the driver's mat. After soldering all new splices on the floor, all windows and switches worked.

After the repair, the passenger switch opened while trying to seat the switch into the door and the contacts fell out. Yesterday, I got the window to power down but no power up.

Attached is a picture with copper rocker contacts placed back into switch, and a second inset shot with the switch pushed into place. The small clips that hold the switch into the door frame need to be replaced; trying to get around the missing clips is when the Eaton switch popped open. Thanks for the wiring/switch info!!!
