That "power outlet" button has a picture of a battery on it. I would guess you would only be able to get 12vdc from that outlet unless you ran an inverter from that point to get the 110v power that you might need. It would be nice if vehicles came with an inverter already installed somewhere so you could simply plug in your 'toys'. That would sure help to reduce the clutter involved with an inverter inside of the cab.
A long time ago (January 11, 2006 to be exact) I posted a thread about my thoughts on the JK's audio system and thought it could be reposted here. As all of us know, our CJ/YJ/TJ stock audio systems sucked when going naked, so I feel the JK will be the same way, and will be modded just like ours were! So here's the repost.
Had some extra time today and was just throwing ideas around for the sound system when I get my 2007 JK at the end of this year, LOL. Since everyone is talking about the JK (I think that's what we've all agreed that it's called, right?) I figured to expand the boundries of the usual threads into the electrical bundle. These are just brain-storms, so just take them for what they are: fun ideas. (All photos taken from RockCrawler.com).
Headunit:
Looks like they stuck with a nice, simple 1 1/2 DIN (or is that a 2 DIN? I can't tell) CD/AM/FM unit. I really like the aux input on the front of the faceplate (in the extreme lower right-hand corner of the faceplate) for connecting my MP3 player without a bunch of adapters and wires sticking out from under panels--or drilling a hole somewhere else to put a headphone jack in (not that I'm gonna' be afraid of drilling holes in my baby, LOL). The simple rectangle opening for the headunit will most likely be very simple for the aftermarket to make a good looking headunit install kit. The center of the dash looks pretty easy to get dis-assembled, too.
Speakers:
Pretty straight-forward. Looks like either 5.25" or 6.5" (probably 5.25" though) in the front. Kinda funny looking, but the top-of-the-dash mounted tweeters will do great things for the front soundstage AND naked Jeeping on the highway. Quality components will be easy to find.
For the soundbar, they look to be 5.25" or 6.5" coaxials. It's DEFINITELY a soundbar and not speaker pods like on later TJs. There's a couple different "holes" on the underside on the bar, one can be attributed to the light in the middle, but the four other ones--two on each side--baffle me. One looks to be just like a hole (maybe for a screw/bolt access) and the other in a turning knob. I don't think either are tweeters. Still easily upgradable, though, like always.
Other possible upgrades:
Since the JK is more than 5" wider and 5.1" longer, there's probably a couple fractions of an inch more than the TJ to add a sub or two behind the rear seat. The only thing is, that would mean that the super-duper little storage space in the "trunk" wouldn't be usable...not for a down-firing box anyway. I was thinking of the using the "storage" space for a fiberglass-molded up-firing enclosure...wouldn't do much for naked Jeeping though. The waves would shoot right out. A cutout for the rear swing-out door will still need to be made...locking mechanism remains to be intrusive. The possibility of an amp under the front driver or passenger seats is questionable. Can't find any pictures of how much room is UNDER the rear seat, but looking at how the tilt and latching gear is extended below the seat, I'd have to guess and say there's at least a couple of inches under there. Yay for Chris! :rtft:
Just fun thinking about it! Feel free to throw in your ideas...

Are you kidding? My TJ is only the second vehicle I've ever owned that had a CD player in the dash!!! I'm just happy it still works; the speakers need to be replaced, but it works, and that's good enough for me!
I like a lot of the specs on the JK. I really was psyched on a new jeep coming out too.
But man, that interior is f'ugly. I thought I'd get used to it, but why mismatched grey/tan? is that just for a prototype? Why did they go with those big funky seat levers and the carnival looking steering wheel? It looks so "toyish".

No, it's a 12V accessory plug. Most modern vehicles have a few of them. Our Ram has 3 up front: 2 in the dash and one in the center console. in the olden days... they were called cigarette plugs. Only now, since smoking is passe`, they've ditched the actual lighter plug part and just left the 12V outlet for accessories, and added a few more to power your cell phone charger, iPod charger, GPS unit, etc, etc.
Actual 110V outlets are becoming relatively common in the crossover market though.
besides a computer, what do you guys plug into the 110? I usemy inverter for my daughters portable dvd since the battery life sucks, and I dont have an dc adaptor.... But thats it...
The head unit size is such that one could put in a nice aftermarket AF-FM/CD/MP3 plus Navigation unit as well as play DVD movies.
Anyone knows if the headunit opening is 4"?
