Just recently purchased a Commander and it has a loud whistle from the front winshield area. Has anyone else reported this problem. Mine is going into the shop for a third time. Any suggestions. Driven it for 11 out of 19 days owned.
...The HEMI ran rough about 4-5 times on start up, fine on re-start. Took it and in and had the codes read, and they re-programmed the software. Been running silky smooth since. There is a TSB for this driveability issue, I was informed....
.
SYCOHEMI... Do you happen to know the TSB number or where I may be able to find this? I have the HEMI and it seems to run rather sluggish and I can feel minor jolts while driving... regardless of speed -
I had the windshield resealed and my "whistling/howling/makes me want to junk it" noise went away. I hope this fix does the trick. I have put about 500 highway miles on the Commander since and I haven't heard a thing.
My newest problem is that the A/C fan or motor is excessively loud when turned up to 50% or more. Does anyone else experience this? Oops. I guess I should make a separate thread. I plan to take my Commander and get the windshield noise checked too.
My Commander is getting fixed right now to reseal the windshield. I called the dealer to schedule an appointment and they knew exactly what was wrong and how to fix it. They said they just fixed another commander the day before. They said it was a 17-page repair problem so they'd have my car for a few days.
HemiCommander - I feel those same minor jolts when driving too. I'm not sure if it happens when the A/C is on or what. I noticed it most recenlty during our 12 hour drive to PA this past weekend. It's extremely minor and I didn't think anything of it. I actually thought it was me being paranoid but I'm glad I'm not the only one who has that problem. Has anyone else noticed this? I have the 4.7L 4X2 Limited.
It seems as though they put weak *** fan blades in these. It's about 92 degress here (with 275% humidity) and wife calls to tell me her dash is vibrating ALOT when she uses the AC/heat.
After checking it out there is def. something either loose or not attached anymore in the blower motor cage area.:brickwall
with a forecast of higher temps, and since my dealership is booked for another week solid I hope she does'nt destroy it totally. I poked around to maybe "patch it" lol alot of junk to get through it seems, and parts would be a quest.
Totally upset! Purchase a new Commander on 7/2 and the day we test drove we heard the windshield whistle. Were told it just needed to be driven, broken in. B S! Whistle noise occured off and on anytime between 50mph-85mph. Had it at dealership day and a half, windshield was resealed (so they say), but still have the problem today and picked it up from the dealership today. Called, and of course svc dept closed until Monday........does anyone know if it is better to get the windshield replaced or resealed again??????
Does anyone know how long it takes for the windshield to be "set"/ "dried" after it has been resealed? And from all the research we have done, it does not appear there is a TSB for the resealing of the windshield. The dealer knew all about it when I called and set the appt.....but unfortunately it does not seem to have fixed our problem.
The whistle is a sensor, not the a.c. or the windshield. If you drive before 8:00 a.m. CST or after dark, the whistle does not occur. It only occurs from 60+ mph and during warmer temperatures. Those of you who have had the windshield fix or the a.c fix will continue to experience the whistle (scream) unless yours is an air leak. An air leak is not the sound that I am experiencing.

I can tell you it's not a sensor and I can even prove it to you if you have a sunroof. Wait until the whistle starts. When it does, open the sunroof and reach out and touch the channel at the top of the windshield with your finger (you may need to raise your seat up a bit to reach it). The whistle either changes pitches or stops. The reason it doesn't happen after dark is because it's cooler outside after dark. This also proves it's not an air leak. It's a whistling caused by the air passing over the top of the windshield. It does sound like some sort of sensor gone haywire. That's what my wife thought it was at first.

in my opinion this is a Cowl ISSUE..........................
all you have to do is check the Cowl under the driver wiper, if you can push on it and see the weatherstrip move freely then thats the issue. the driver side of the Cowl is a solid peice of plastic, only the center of the cowl is open, so air is getting in and pushing the cowl up and its flapping and causing noise. the Cowl is held down with small clips, not screwed down. your Cowl should be nice and tight along the whole bottom of the winshield, if you have a BOW in any area of the Cowl you WILL get this noise at some point in time.
i removed a Cowl, heated the bowed area with a heat gun, then proceeded to open every slat on the Cowl on the drivers side and exposed the wiper motor, looks like crap, but............... drove 18 miles 65-80 and NO NOISE...............
i have posted in another section some things you might wanna try to do, DO NOT damage or destroy your Cowl, there are very few in stock at the warehouses. i will modify more Cowls in the coming days and see if it fixes the issues, and then repost my findings.
good luck and have fun.......
