Just recently purchased a Commander and it has a loud whistle from the front winshield area. Has anyone else reported this problem. Mine is going into the shop for a third time. Any suggestions. Driven it for 11 out of 19 days owned.

I have not experienced that problem. I have just over 1K miles.

Sorry to hear you are having problems. What else are you experiencing?

Commander

The right side air duct is not sealing. Technician said he could not fix it because of seals. When I drove the other you could notice a huge difference. There is also a rattle in the upper right corner. Maybe it is all connected. They are going to reseal the front winshield tomorrow. Love the vehicle. Great ride.

Hope they can fix those for you.

I have a buddy that had a Discovery Series II and he finally got it returned under lemon laws. He bought a Toyota Tacoma with the offroad package, and he is planning to do Old Mojave Road with us in Nov.

Do you have a rattle in the right front by the grab rail? If so I know they tightened that up and reduced the rattle. There also is one in the front top right speaker. Drove another and it did not have issues. I am in contact with Chrysler now and will be waiting on words. How is the Hemi running for the vehicle?

No rattle in front grab rail.

The HEMI ran rough about 4-5 times on start up, fine on re-start. Took it and in and had the codes read, and they re-programmed the software. Been running silky smooth since. There is a TSB for this driveability issue, I was informed.

No rattles. Seems pretty quiet to me on the inside, even with the roof rack rails and the more upright windshield.

I am driving a relatively new Durango loaner, while my vehicle is being used for R&D for a conical air filter kit.

Man, what a piece of junk. The suspension is bouncy and all over the place, and it is noisy and rough. It has the Magnum V8, 4.7L, which seems fine, but not as fun as the HEMI. In my opinion, the Commander is head and shoulders above this vehicle. The Durango suspension seems to lightly "shudder" over bumps.

Durango

I agree. They gave me one to drive the first time in the shop. It is as ugly as it is rough riding. Did not enjoy at all. Friend of mine had the older Durango and his rear end went out of it after 60K. He drives a Chev Avalanche. Just as ugly though. I am talking to Chrysler now. Who knows what is going to happen. Take it easy.

whistling noise

Hi,

This is a response to post #1.

Although I do like this car very much, I have the same problem. Just recently bought 3 weeks ago. I finally got a chance to drive on highway and recently discovered the "whistling" noise ( I think primarily coming from the front right windshield and passenger side window). It gets definately noisier when going over 70 mph.

1) I opened the passenger door and looked underneath the rubber frames right on top of the window body frame. I noticed that the metal body frame is not straight throughout and that some one tried to fill the void with some adhesive like material (probably manufacturer).....you should take a look at your pass door as well...
2) Also, I can defiantely see that the door frame is not quite "flush" (driver side & passenger side) when closed with the body & rubber that is between the metal door & body frame. Actually both doors does not look flsush from the outside either...I suspect this may be part of the problem...I'm going to take it to the dealer and have them take a look.

Anyone have any suggestions as to my recourse?......I'm hoping the dealer does not give me any problems.......

The dealer is only willing to try and fix at this time. I told them that it wasn't enough. They get one more chance. Under Texas lemon law they have 4 times in a 12 month period to try and fix. It have documented three times in less than a month. You are correct with the speeds. Chrysler wants to replace the molding. Also does your jeep have a loud wind noise coming from the right duct? Would like to actually talk to you. Do you have a private email account I could reach you at so I can give you my number. Thanks

I just purchased a Commander Saturday, I noticed a whistle on the way home, after reading over the quick step guide I discovered that the roof rack rear section was install backwards and once I installed them in the 1st and 4th detent as suggested in the guide my noise went away.. Not sure if its the same noise you were speaking of but it fixed my problem.

No problem.. I guess the folks at the dealer did not read them either :) they arrows that state -> Front of vehicle.. So far I love mine, I have had 5 wranglers, this is my 1st full size jeep .. The quietness and extra room is nice compared to my rubicon that I traded in..

Here are a few pics My Commander

Curious

Sorry about you guys having problems with your new vehicles. I too am having problems. Not with the Commander, but with a 2005 WK GC. Three pistons replace recently on the 3.7 with only 3100 miles. Nice. Anyway. My curiosity was peaked when a couple of you mentioned that whistling noise from the right side wind shield at highway speeds. I too have experienced this in my WK. I also found that if have the AC or Heater on at about the Third Click on the blower speed, the whistling is louder. As I cycle through the blower speeds, it goes away. Can you guys try that to see if you experience the same thing in your Commanders? Thanks for listening....

That A/C problem must be pretty annoying. I haven't noticed that yet, and will keep an ear out for it.

I had the same problem with the roof rack as well. When I would drive down the highway there would be a whistle noise coming from the top of my Commander. The dealership had installed the roof racks right before we drove off the lot the other day. They had them on facing the right way, but they did not have the back one in one of the 5 designated sposts. My husband reset them today and the noise went away. :) :)

I bought my v6 back in November. I started getting the whistle at 8000 miles. I have the whistle problem on a very intermittent basis. But it definately occurs when I'm going 65 and over. The dealership did the AC "fix" and I am still getting the whistle. I do not have a sunroof.

Any help would be appreciated.

There is a TSB out on the seal around the glove box area. However they had to remove my windshield and use a special apoxy to seal the windshield.

My newest problem is that the A/C fan or motor is excessively loud when turned up to 50% or more. Does anyone else experience this? Oops. I guess I should make a separate thread. I plan to take my Commander and get the windshield noise checked too.
