Oil change, alignment, rotation, brake pads, rotors, new brake shoes in the drums, resurfaced the drums, inspected the front intermediate drive shaft, have to replace the cv joint, maybe the whole shaft. Back window regulator broke, shopping for a replacement. Really thinking about doing a lift this year and some new bumpers.
Ive been looking at the ARB bullbar up front and the Rock Lizard heavy duty Komodo Dragon rear bumper. Then start with the other underbelly stuff (sliders skid plates etc...)

Lol Believe me I don't think youd have to replace the ARB . According to the previous owner - 4 deer, 1 Camry, and the one that did damage an old PU. But just a little work a smidgen of bondo and some paint and still looking good.
He hasn't tested his new RL out yet so I cant report on it. Lol
That was another reason for looking at the ARB, Im planning to move back to an area that has a lot of medium to large game animals. Everything from deer to bear to elk to moose is on the list of critters that will likely end up on the roadway in winter. Ive been thoroughly impressed with the ARB durability and really like the looks. Also dont have to deal with finding someone to powder coat it (the right way the first time) and Ive noticed when I bolt things together they dont seem to look as pictured lol.
But I dont want this to turn into a Rock Lizard vs ARB thread. They both make some seriously awesome products Im going to have to do a lot of penny pinching to make happen.
Powder coating is overrated on bumpers, my old ARB that John has was of course powder coated from the factory, it was starting to come off in spots before it was two years old . IMO just paint a bumper and be done OF course my RL front bumper cam powder coated but .....
Replaced my 12 year old, falling apart exhaust, with the Flowmaster Stainless Steel Exhaust. Overall construction and fit is great! The "rumble" is quite as good as the 40 Series I had in before.
Installed EVIC (all good, ambient temp sensor on the way), converted my dash light bulbs to LEDs, installed rear seat covers to match front seat covers.
I performed a tune-up, air filter, and oil change. I had also serviced my A/C system, plus swapped out the factory lug nuts for a set of locking lug nuts. I got tires of the cheap tin caps coming off of the nuts, plus I had a BEAR of a time drilling one out because the nut flats had stripped out on me. I had also dropped the front skid plate to clean off, but it barely had any build-up on it.
I just bought my KJ a little over a week ago. Over the weekend and today I did a load of things.
Replaced the radiator, hood struts and belt. Changed the motor oil, filter and air filter. Changed the spark plugs. Did an automatic transmission service. Changed both the front and real differential gear oil as well as the transfer case fluid. Drove it around tonight and it all looks good, no leaks.
Unfortunately after buying it I am no longer able to open the rear glass. It opened when I inspected it and it opened after a few turns the night I brought it home. But now I cannot get it to open at all. I hear some kind of mechanism happening when I turn the key right, but the glass stays down and latched. Honestly, I'm not sure how it is supposed to work... I turn the key and the glass opens, right? Then I can turn it again to unlock the swing gate?
This is my next project I will start tomorrow. I'm doing some reading on it right now and tomorrow I will pull the trim panel off and hopefully figure out why its not opening.
The glass opens if you slightly pull on the handle, not from the key turn AFAIK (this is how my 02 works, anyway... but I never use the key, only electronic locks). Full pull on the handle opens gate and glass.
Well, after removing the plastic panel and fiddling with the mechanism it works fine consistently now... When I turn the key to the left, it pops the glass. When I pull the handle halfway, it pops the glass. So I do believe that the key alone does pop the glass, unless that is defect related to my issue. When it works I hear a mechanism when I turn the key left or pull the handle half way. When it doesn't work I hear nothing at all. I suspect the switch/sensor in the handle is malfunctioning. When the issue comes up again I will apply voltage directly to the glass release motor to substantiate my suspicion.
It's probably the micro switch that controls the lock mechanism. I had a similar problem and eventually tracked down the switch and repaired it. Here is the thread that describes the issue and the fix:

Got the switch in today and just installed it. It works great! I hope this does the trick. It was a super easy install, but unlike the switch pictured in your other thread, mine had the "nubs" on both sides and wouldn't fit. I cut the unneeded nubs off and it fit.
Did you get the switch from the same place in Europe I got mine? Hopefully you found it stateside - not that the switch is expensive. It's only 7 bucks - but the shipping was $21
Still vastly better than the dealership's $91 for the switch and handle bundle
I got it from the same place. I looked for other places, found some that might have been the right part... But I couldn't be sure as there was no picture and the cost was around $25 before shipping so I figured get the one that has been known to work for a few dollars more.
Bought it for the wife. 2002 sport with 110,000 miles. Rust free and tight with a warranty. You guys are probably going to see a lot of me in the coming months.
Thanks. I looked at four other KJs, a dozen WJs, and a couple WKs before settling on this one. Tires are literally three days old, VA inspection yesterday, new brakes a week ago, and detailed very well. This is the first non-grand cherokee Jeep Ive had and and the only non V8 I've ever owned.
Snapped these with my pocket calculator. This was pre-detailing a couple days ago

Very nice congrats, yours is the same color combo and year as mine.
