Today I sold my YJ. Here's one last shot of it....

I decided to close my build thread for the YJ, because it would just make me sad to keep looking back at it everytime someone posted something there, now it can slowly fade away...

I always wanted a Rubicon, and was able to aquire this one:

It's first dirt....lol.

It's a 2006, Automatic, air, cruise, 6-disc CD, Canadian model. Being from Canada it has daytime running lights, that you can't just turn off. It had the instrument panel swapped out when it crossed the border as well. It had around 27,800 miles on it when I picked it up, and the MTR's were wore pretty good, so new shoes will be coming soon.

I decided he milk jugs needed to go asap....

Now you see them....

Now you don't.

They don't even look good laying in the grass.

My customary night shot.

I didn't waste anytime taking it wheeling, this was @ The Badlands.

The only "mod" I've done so far is getting a set of Husky Liner's for the interior. I had them in the YJ and loved them.

Now that the YJ is gone, and I have a few bucks to spend, I'll be making some more changes in the very near future. This build will be more towards how I actually wheel, based on what I learned over the last 3 1/2 years with the YJ. I probably won't go as tall as I had before. This will be my daily driver and see trails on occassion...maybe 6 times a year on average.

I was able to borrow a OBD2 code reader today, it was just a small emissions evap leak....I'm hoping it was just the gas cap. I hadn't filled it or anything, but I did leave the Jeep sitting outside overnight for the first time in about 6 months, so maybe it experienced some shrinkage, due to the cold. We'll see if the code comes back or not.

Nope. It didn't come back on when I started it after work...so that's a plus.

Went for a drive today..... Still no code. The squeak is getting louder.. No surprise there.

#3,532 ·
I hope it never comes back...LOL.

I believe I have a u-joint warning me it's almost time for new ones.

I'd like to do it in the dark.

Under a full moon would be cool.

The IndyORV gang went wheeling today, at The Badlands in Attica Indiana, work kept me from going.....but I still went "wheeling".....

The blue sky was a much welcomed surprise. Tomorrow is supposed to be even nicer.

305/70R16's.....so close to 33's.

Got home from work and put the rear of the Jeep on jack stands, started it up and found the squeak is from the rear...and here I was thinking it was from up front.

I need to wait for the wife to get home so I can get under it to find out where exactly the noise is coming from.

Edit: wife got home so I was able to get under and listen for the squeak....rear most u-joint. No wiggle in the joint....just a little squeak up to about 15-20 mph.

Guess I have some work ahead of me.

With any luck I'll get my hands on some new Spicer u-joints, soon, and get my rear drive shaft to shut up. Once that is done I'll have to start moving to the front of the Jeep...tranny pan leak, u-joints for the front shaft would be nice too.

I wish I had the funds to tuck it and buy new shafts...but if I did that I'd greatly reduce my chances at making it to Colorado in August.

The gasket sounds much nicer than RTV.

I'm in serious need of some new Spicer u-joints.....

I got off work and took the rear shaft off, threw it in 4hi and went for a drive....the squeak is gone. Too bad I can't get Spicer joints anywhere local. I have a buddy who may be able to pick some up, as he works in towards Chi-town.

Getting those stock u-joints out looks like fun. Apparently they need to have the caps melted out....that wouldn't be fun on the trail at all.

New u-joints are supposed to be here today. Hopefully I find time to change them this weekend.

No u-joints this weekend.....I guess I'll find something else to do.

I'm sure glad I didn't have to deal with this factory u-joint on the trail. What a pita.

I at least gave it a shot. I got a torch and melted a bunch of crap out of the caps, but the caps won't budge. These are the worst u-joints I've ever worked on. I guess I'll just have to wait for my buddy to press them out and put the new ones in. Easier for me to let some one else do it I guess...lol.

Look into an OMC ball joint press. I think I got mine new for 130.00. The thing works great for swapping u joints and if you put the C into a vise, it's much easier to work with.

I want to get some Spicer u-joints, but paying 20 bucks in shipping for 40 bucks in parts ain't happening.....I guess I'll keep looking.

Edit: Got 'em off Amazon, should have just looked there first. lol.

Hopefully I'll be back in 4wd by the weekend.

I still have to find someone to press the old joints out.....and I'll probably have them press the new ones in while they're at it, I'll do the hammer/socket thing if I have too someday.

I'm one step closer to getting my Jeep back to 4wd mode. A buddy brought me knew u-joints last night, but then he decided to take them and the drive shaft with him to switch them out for me.....maybe that's two steps closer.

My set of spare rear u-joints arrived today. Someday I will wheel again.
