Heres my shot at a build thread. i never took a lot of pics through the yrs but i will try to get everyone up to date. most of this build thread is from my build over on Wranglerboard.com
I bought my YJ when i was 16 yrs old. almost 9 yrs ago. she already had a 4" procomp lift and some 33" bfg mud terrains. that and the sweet 2" round bumpers were the only mods on it.
i ran that setup all through high school and thought i was on top of the world. my jeep could do anything. i added some lights and some bushwackers flares
when i was 19 i joined the military and moved to Virginia. with multiple deployments to Iraq and non-stop training my 3 yrs there i only wheeled ONCE on the east coast.
right before my only run out there i went out and bought a smittybilt tire carrier so i can have a spare for the trail ride. a couple months afterwards i bought a matching pro comp front bumper and got rid of my tube bumpers.
here i am in Gore, Va
and the new front bumper i bought
rear tire carrier
after 3 yrs on the east coast i begged and pleaded and got stationed in San Diego. once getting out here everthing pretty much went down hill.
within my first month here i bought a welder and started fabbing some stuff up.
my first project was my rock sliders
i wheeled a little around SD and back home in vegas some more then came another deployment. while on deployment i ordered a couple parts and went right to work installing them when i returned Dec 2010.
Lookin sweet dude. Have a question for you? when you did your dimple mod did you have to modify your fuel pump and return so it would fit back down in the tank? I vaguely remember you saying something like that. Since my motor swap I have to run an in tank pump now so I'm wondering if the hump at the bottom is going to create problems with my new fuel sending unit.

I did the dimple mod too. I didn't have to modify my fuel pump although it was close. The hump comes from the front and almost pushed my fuel pump back. If this happens you'll need to bend the fuel pump cage to the rear. This might result in a quarter or half inch of lost fuel though. It didn't for me though.
So yesterday was a long day for me. I drove 6.5 hrs ONE WAY to TN to grab this axle. It is an '88 Ford King pin D60. Its nice and clean with no rust or anything. This is a diamond in the rough out here on the east coast.
I will not be throwing this under my rig anytime soon. I am still in the collection phase of my one ton swap. I will also be moving states again in less than a year and dont want to get involved in any big projects.
Thanks, as you can see i copied you when it came to the cart. The cart i have for my Eaton sucks. Its hard to move it and the damn axle falls sometimes when trying to move it. This should work a lot better. I do think I'm going to have to make a couple little changes though. The '88 only has about a 3" short side tube, which obviously doesnt fit inside 2x4" as you can see in the pics. Thats why its sitting facing down. The drivers side is sitting on the cast.
Are you planning to run leaves with the D60? If so, are you planning on outboarding or retubing the short side? Or are you not planning to run full width? I'm currently debating what route I'm going to take with mine as I'm not ready to take on linking the front either, so I figured I'd see what your plans were.
Nice jeep too, btw! Started following your thread sometime last year and love what you've done with it man.

Those are beef. I hadn't thought about spring location with a 60. The driver side really doesn't give many options. I'd second that kit and if you get it let us know everything good and bad.
Edit: if you used that eaton axle where can you find parts IF it did break?
Stock shafts (which are huge btw) would have to be found in a junk yard for the Eaton. Same with gears. The diff internals will take a 14bolt locker, and that will let you run the more common 14bolt shafts. Wheel bearings and seals are available at the parts store. The only really oddball part I worry about is the pinion bearing as it is unique and very pricy.
Other than running it without oil I don't see how we could hurt one of those axles with a 6cyl. Lol

I just looked back on your pics again and noticed the rock sliders you made. Those look incredible. Did you design them up yourself or was there some inspiration behind that? When I start doing body work to my CJ7 I'm going to be doing doing a lot of fab work with the welders and something like that would an awesome start.
If you're still in NC I am now in Cary. We should meet up some time if you are able. My wife is still in Knoxville till the end of June so I am doing a lot of nothing.

I am still In NC. I'm in Jacksonville which is only about 2 hrs away from you. I'd love to meet up sometime. Either I head out to Raleigh or you can come out this way. We could even do a BBQ at my place or something of you wanted.

Thank you man. The first rock sliders I made were a project to get me started into welding. I had no real experience and that's what I chose to build. The design is real simple, just some 3x5" angle iron and some 1 3/8"(?) pipe. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
They turned out pretty sweet for your introduction in to welding. Very nice job. I have access to a few welders and a plasma cutter so I plan to do a lot of my own fab work like sliders, cage, stinger, bumpers, ect.
Well its been a while since I updated this. I've done a few little things since I was last on here. I wet-sanded and waxed the whole jeep to refresh the paint and then changed out the front springs to some that weren't as bent up .
The most recent thing I did was order some LED bars. I found a company that sells LED bars at a pretty good price with great reviews. I decided to give them a shot and try them out. I originally was going to order a 50" bar but then decided to get two 20" bars that I can mount to my cage and have them still be protected in the event that I roll.
Here is the 1st package that arrived.
packaging seems pretty good. I was impressed.
measures 20" as advertised.
both lights
One of the lights has a CREE sticker on it, the other doesn't :dunno:
threw them on the hood of the jeep to test them out.
stock headlights with brights on
bars on (still have a little bit of daylight coming in the garage)
low beams on (mostly dark outside now)
high beams on
both LED bars on (garage lights off and mostly dark outside)
And this is how i plan on mounting them to my cage
that's it for now. In the next couple weeks I plan to make some tabs and weld them up to my cage. Well update once I do.
Amazon. Based on the reviews I think they should do good for what I need. I'm not racing so I don't need a $2k light. My girlfriend also has a degree in electronics engineering so worst case scenario if they end up crapping out on me, I have her use the housing and install and wire better LEDS. Here's the page. He has a lot of different sizes for a great price http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EJFH6YA?ie=UTF8&at=&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links
Well I figured I would update this with my LED bar install.
The first thing I did before I started wiring up the LED bars was clean up some of my wiring. I had a bunch of dead end wired as well as stray wiring.
This is what my wiring looked like before hand
and after
This is all the dead end wires I removed
Then I made some mounts and welded them up.
I cleaned up the wiring more after those pics. Then it was on to testing them.
This is stock headlights
LED bars and headlights
Headlights, LED bars and rock lights
And thats it on the LED bars.
While working on this project I also decided to stain/seal my trailer deck with some used oil.
Before staining
And after. I think it looks good.
Well thats all for now....
