just traded my 1 ton yj this morning for my newest project...

its a '91 MJ that so far has been turning heads here around town. this is my 7th jeep that i've owned in the past 6 years. im a firm supporter of built not bought but let me tell ya what, after this many jeeps it doesnt make a difference. i know y'all are gonna bag on me for getting rid of the yj on 40's and with a dana 60/14bolt, full hydro, yada yada yada. but in all reality, it was more fun building that jeep than wheeling it. it took the challenge away from wheeling. the hassle of trailering to the offroad park, and not being able to drive my jeep on the street drove me to the decision of getting rid of it

with that being said, the plan for this build (is it really a build since its already built?) is to create an expedition jeep that is a drive anywhere do anything jeep, with the most important aspect being that i plan to drive the jeep to the trails (with occasional exceptions of it being a trailer queen).

I've got a firm building platform, 4.0L/5 speed, something like 5 inches of lift, fresh long arms, bumpers & armor, 4:1 teralow, and decent 33s.

anyways here is what i will be working with.. more details later. let me know what y'all think!!!

and incase y'all missed it, heres my old YJ on the trailer this morning before i headed up to make the trade...

photobucket is being dumb and all my uploads keep failing excpet this one picture... anyhow, yanked the axles out from under the jeep and loaded em up in the dodge and went down the road a few miles to my buddies barn to use his 220v welder to burn in all the axle brackets, i just didnt feel comfortable using my 120v welder for the important stuff haha. i just had to fork over $700 for ball joints in the dodge so thats gonna push things back a little for the jeep, but up soon will be steering (ruff stuff or northwest fab) and regearing the rear, (have 4.56s to match the front, and a full spool) and get some chromos to go with the 35 spline spool.

after i got the axles back to my place i gave em a fresh coat

cleaning the threads and installing a cheapo hi steer arm

finish welded and painted the 3rd link

this was from last night down at my buddies barn

then robby bobby had a clever idea...

thats what im talkin bout

i had to mount the 2 front tires backwards cause of the large amount of backspacing conflicting with the steering arms.. no biggie just a temporary fix. the h2 wheels are on my diesel so i might get 2 small wheel spacers for this..

offically on all 4 ill drink a pabst to that

not really gonna have many updates for a little while. got another project that took priority. id been driving my v6 dakota because the cost of diesel went thru the roof... well the v6 in the dakota took a crap so im swapping in a 5.9 v8 in a hurry so i can get it back on the road, so until then the jeep is gonna sit dormant. but there is lots to do on the jeep, i need to hire some mexicans to get it done for me haha

FINALLY got some time at the shop to get some things done. robby bobby got the tires mounted for me while i was at work today, then we threw in a coil spacer up front and 2 leafs into the leaf back in the rear, mounted up the tsl's, put in the front shocks, and then i spend 2 hours cleaning the shop, since nobody else will. its time for a beer. enjoy the pics :cheers2:

-steering. to be decided, the jeep is currently set up for hydro assist, but i have collected some parts for a single ended full hydro system.
-doubler needs tig welded
-driveshafts need recut
-brakes
-fuel lines
-rear shocks (no biggie)
-i have another 60 front that has yukon shafts, drive flanges, etc, that will get transferred to the bare 60 thats in the jeep
-rear needs geared to match the front (4.56), or both will get geared into the 5.xx's money depending
-trim bumpers and sliders to accommodate for the 42's

got a smokin deal on a spratan locker for the front from baseline 4x4 thru pirate, thats in the mail hopefully to be delivered by the weekend. will also be ordering the parts to do the rear next week. for that im getting yukon 4340 chromoly 35 spline shafts and a master install kit to put in the gears and full spool i already have. last night i got the donor axle ripped apart and the parts ready to swap into the jeep. these shafts are also yukon chromoly and the neat thing about gm dana 60 fronts is that you can use a dana 70 side outter stub shaft which is an upgrade from 30 to 35 spline.

dana 30 stub next to dana 60 35 spline chromoly stub (same size as dana 70)
