Looking for something new in Moab

I'm looking for some direction for my next spring trip to moab. We've been running Hell's Revenge, Fins N Things, Moab Rim, Metal Masher, Poison Spider, Gold Bar, Golden Spike for the past couple years. I love the trails, but we've done all of them several times, but we're looking for something new.

My cherokee has 33" muds with a rear locker and plenty of flex. Most the rigs I roll with are at similar capabilities.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I loved Cliff Hanger....great views, and a pretty good pucker factor if you're afraid of heights.

They all show the "rock pile" along the edge, that you have to climb on the way back...it's not the only obstacle, but it has the biggest pucker factor.

I recommend Seven Mile Rim.

Two of us did Cliff Hanger in a couple of hours....but we were the only Jeeps on the trail.

I've never considered BFE. I just always assumed that was buggy country. Interesting to hear a similar set-up is enjoying it so much. Maybe Green Day would be a good option.

I felt like Metal Masher was exactly opposite. I thought it had one cool thing after another. I have LOVED Hells Revenge, but after doing it so many times, it seems like I only look forward to 3-4 obstacles on that trail. Maybe I just need to give HR a break?

Yeah, Green Day and Minor Threat are the two easiest trails out there. Other than that, it is mostly buggies (they sure put on a good show though). My XJ is on 33's and was open diff's front and rear the couple of times out there; made it through just fine. Minor Threat was difficult because of differential clearance. Green Day has easy bypasses for the extreme stuff, pretty straight forward otherwise. We've always just ran it reversed too. So we started on the South trailhead and ran it going CounterClockwise as viewed on the map.

What engine is in your buddy's rig? I'm seriously looking at some long-term plans for a VW TDI swap into my XJ. That one definitely sounds bigger though, 4BT maybe? I'm also interested in seeing what Ram's new 3.0 V6 for their diesel half-ton will look like.

Sweet video though. We started that trail a little later in the day and underestimated the time to run it, so that section of the trail ended up being one of those unexpected night runs. It's kind of cool to see the huge cliffs we were inches away from, I didn't know those were there. Specifically at 4:18, I remember taking that same line.

I know you're asking about Moab....but I've started turning to the Sand Hollow area to break up the scenery. I love Moab and always will, however, going at least once a month (when there isn't snow) is getting repetitive. If you're looking for something new, check out Sand Hollow! The sand stone down there is, in my opinion, better than Moab rock. :shhh:

The other thing I love doing is running a few of these trails at night. Poison spider mesa is a blast at night! Toss some cheap fog lights from Walmart on as rock lights, and go have fun!

Depending on the dates I might be able to pull that off. Where do I need to watch for details? Here? FB? RME?
I'll end up making an event on Facebook. I actually think I already have it made...I'll take a look and send you an invite.

I'd love to do some wheeling in St George. Only reason Moab is my default is the trails are all so well known, they're always cake to find.

I was going to ask you to send me an invite for Feb, but then I saw the post of your rig. Although, I'd consider my xj fairly capable, i believe we are in completely different weight classes.

I'll have you guys know that I spend more time wheeling with a YJ on 33's and open than anyone else. I like to wheel, even if it's rattle snake at 5 mile pass.

The great thing about sand hollow is that there is a lot of fun stuff for all capabilities.

A YJ open on 33s. That rig sounds familiar :)

I'll vouch it's fun wheeling with Braden. His may be veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery built. But usually most trails can be done in smaller rigs. Just by taking different lines as ones he goes on.

Hey, I'd love to be shown around some good wheeling spots at Sand Hollow. If you get an event created, share it with me if you don't mind, or post where I can find the info. I may try to tag along I there's no snow. No way I'm driving 4 hours to wheel in the snow.

And thanks for all the replies. I'm looking forward to doing some new stuff this year.

Top of the World is a great trail. Not difficult but an amazing view at the top. I too am looking for something other than Hells, Fins, and Spider. I did Kane Creek last summer with some other UJC'ers and it is a great trail. Sevenmile is nice as well.

I keep wanting to take a day trip up into the La Sals as well as the Dome Plateau area.

The next time i go I will do Sevenmile for sure. I've only done it once before and my wife has never been on it.We'll do Top of the World as well because of the view.

I would love to run Dome Plateau one morning, (never done it) and then Top of the World in the afternoon. This is on my list for our next trip.
