So my headlights started flickering as I was driving then went out.... I pulled over a hit the center of the grill..boom lights on made it home... next night no lights.. hit the grill got amber and brake lights.. replaced switch, nothing. Grounds by headlights are kinda weak... but good... fuses are good too. Need to solve this!

SO no power at the bulbs from the factory wires. Trace them back and/or check continuity of the wirse from the end point to the switch.

Hitting the grill and they came back on tells me to look at the wiring at the grill. The wire could look fine, but have a break in it or corrosion from a pin hole.

Check the connectors female pins are making contact and not loose.

The ground is the screw holding the eyelid. Remove screw and eyelid and scratch some paint for the eyelid to ground to reinstall.

If I were you I would just do the headlight mod. Your problems are over period. Plus you will have much brighter lights.
Not exactly. The standard headlight mo still uses the hi and low beam wires to activate the relays to the lights. If he has no power to them, the mod won't do him any good. He could rewrite the switch to the relays and that would fix it.

Had the same problem my friend. The factory headlight harness runs along the driverside, above the fender well to the bottom center of the grill. At this location, jeep spliced "Y" the wires to run to each headlight. Your splices, like mine, have finally reached their life. It's a pain in the *** to get to, but you need to reach between the radiator and back of the grill, pull down the harness and rebuild the splices.

Wait.... He was useing a test light. What were you grounding the test light to? If you were using the headlight ground and the ground is bad that would show as no power to the headlight. You need to ground the test light to the battery. I am still betting on bad grounds. Its a YJ its always the grounds.
