Question for folks who had recall N58 done

Hello guys,

I just had my N58 recall done to hopefully fix the dash board blackouts (happened to me twice in the last few months) and noticed that my 8.4 radio unit was downgraded from 13.38.52 to 13.19.

Do you know if the N58 recall with programming update to the Instrument cluster and ABS would automatically bring the head unit to 13.19?

The reason I am asking is that I specifically told the service writer not to perform any updates on the radio as I was running 13.38.52 that has been finally working correctly with my Samsung Galaxy S3.
Also I asked for TSB for the transmission shift enhancements that should help with the ECO mode and the TSB to take care of the Remote start HVAC issues to be applied. I was told that those TSB do not apply to my car (total bull..., my build date April 2014). So I insisted on writing down my issues on the work request and in the end the TSB were applied, unfortunately probably including the radio downgrade to 13.19 that I specifically asked not to be done (update to 13.38.52 was a bit painful and it took for the radio a couple of days to start acting finally ok so not happy at all having to do all over again).

Anyway, when I was picking up the car earlier today I was asked to provide feedback after I drive the car. I wanted to make sure that the radio update to 13.19 is not a part of the recall before I complain about it. (how stupid do you have to be to proceed with the update when it even tells you on the screen that you are going to flash older version than already installed).

Thanks for letting me know if your radio was also downgraded to version 13.19 with the N58 recall or not.

Edit: I just went through the invoice and noticed that they listed TSB 13-071 separately as work performed, which confirms the downgrade was not related to the recall and it was the service own initiative even though I specifically asked them not do do it.

I didn't think they could revert to an earlier version. The tech should have got a notice that the radio is up to date and it would refuse to take it. Another thing that's changed for 2014 I guess.

My 2014 Grand Cherokee was built in Jan 2013 and I purchased it in March. It went in yesterday and had all the updates done, (dash, radio, transmission and PCM). I have had zero problems with this Jeep, so it had only been in the shop once for an oil change. It only has 6,000 miles on it. The radio now shows the 13.38 version.

You're not the first person this has happened to. I've read about this being all too common. I'm in the same boat you were in, and I'm delaying having the recall done. I have an April build, and need the same updates as you, and already updated the radio myself. I hope my service department isn't as clueless as many others I've heard about, but I'm going to wait until I need an oil change to have them done, sometime in January. I'd definitely let them know they screwed up, if only to help the next person to deal with this issue.
I'd have to say I'd probably do the radio re-update myself if I were you. The problems you had after you did it the first time are pretty normal, and always clear after a few days. I think they may have to run a version change to collect on the warranty from Chrysler. Either that, or the tech just wasn't paying attention. Hope you can straighten it all out. Seems to be endemic that Chrysler dealers have a somewhat shoddy reputation with their service departments. I haven't had my GC in for service yet, but never had a problem with my Compass being serviced properly. Again, good luck!

Mine's in the shop right now, to have N58 applied. I requested they also scan for any other applicable software updates, HVAC, TCM, etc. Like you I had already upgraded the Uconnect myself to 13.38.52, and let them know this had been done already.

Will see tomorrow if it's changed back to 13.19.

Well I got the truck back today. Can't say for certain whether N58 downgrades UConnect or not. When I got it back UConnect was still at 13.38.52, but my workorder indicates that they "Performed RRT update 13-071 - Radio / Audio enhancements". So it's possible N58 downgraded it, and then they upgraded it again, to the same version I brought it in with.

I had my done yesterday. Started the vehicle to let it warm up as it was 20 this am where I live. car sat about 10 min before I pulled out. When I got in the car, guess what, screen was black. When I got to the office and turned it off, went back out 20 min later to turn it on and it was fine. I'm wondering if all is really well
