Just got back from shooting a round of sporting clays at CCSP. Started out by having my shotgun come loose from the gun mount on the golf cart. Resulted in bending the barrel on what used to be my most valuable gun. Calling browning tomorrow to see if they will fix it. When I'm not so pissed off I'll take some pics.

That EFFING sucks sturgio! Mine wasn't as bad, but NHP had I-15 and LV blvd closed between Sloan and Jean! Had to wing it and just did some light plinking. My 308 is way off, and so am I! I discovered in more consistently accurate with my SR1911 than with my G17! Surprised the hell out of myself! Forgot my 204 ammo, which bummed me out. Oh well, I'll try again soon.

I want to join you out there for some clay shooting sometime. Sorry to hear about your browning, hopefully they can fix it.

I headed out there this afternoon and met the same detour. I asked the trooper if the area was closed and he said yes. Not to be deterred, we took an "alternative" route. There is a trail that runs along side the rail line on the west side of 15 which pops out a mile or so before the lightweight sand pit. Not sure whether it is private land or not but we did get a friendly wave from the train driver who was stopped.

If traffic was anything like yesterday it was probably to keep people from bypassing the traffic on 15. Yesterday traffic was backed up from Primm to mile marker 23. I could not count the number of times that I saw south bound traffic stopped in socal.

Yep the citori. Nope not that bad Khris. I talked to a browning rep this AM and they are supposed to give me a call today or tomorrow when they decide whether to have me ship it to them or take it to an authorized gun smith.
The biggest problem is that it is a competition gun and they don't think they have an approved shop on the west coast, but it sounds like they don't really want me to ship it either. I guess this is my excuse to buy a semi.

Ditto on CalRanch, it's a cool store with friendly folks that always take time to give our dog a treat when we go in to wander around.
Dogs allowed? That's cool, another place to take the pooch.

I know a few of you reload, is a turret press worth the extra money over a single stage? I'm looking at the Lee turret press kit on Midway for $209. Any other recommendations in that price range. Plan on reloading small batches of around 100 rounds of 223 at a time.

Thanks.

My opinion? Buy once cry once. Get what you think you'll need the first time around, and get quality. I would go RCBS, but thats more than you want to spend. I have heard plenty of good about the lee stuff, but i've also heard and experienced some of the not so good (inconsistent measurements and whatnot). Will it work? sure. Will it last? probably a while. Is making home made bullets something I want to cut ANY corners on? No thanks, I'd like to keep my eyes, face, hands, and guns intact.

Ask yourself this:

What are you planning to reload? High volume stuff like 9mm or 55gr .223? Get a progressive setup. Setting it up takes alot longer but you will load a run of like 1000 rounds before switching calibers. If you're new to it, a progressive may be a bit much to swallow, unless you proceed slowly.

Want to go a lil faster than single stage? get a turret. Turret just saves time on the setup, you're still pulling the handle the same amount of times.

If you're more concerned with pumping out low volume high quality ammo, go single stage. There are things you can do to make it go faster, like terry got the case prep center and the electronic chargemaster, but still, single stage takes a while.

I dont feel like its worth my time to load high volume ammo. 9mm i can get factory reloads for about 20 cents a round, surplus 5.56 is coming down too. What am I going to save by spending an entire weekend or two reloading 1000 rounds? $100? Not worth it I plan to be reloading .45-70, match quality .223, and .357, all of which would be considered (in my case) low volume, high expense rounds. On match .223 and .45-70 I will literally be saving $100 on 100 rounds over buying factory ammo. That, is worth my time.

X2! What marn said. I am thinking of selling/trading my dillon550 to get an rcbs setup to do my 204, 308, and 357. 9mm and 223 just aren't worth the time involved either way. It's a tedious process, and unless you are truly trying to create accurate rounds or save money on expensive/rare calibers, it not worth it, IMO.

Thanks for the posts Gents, some good info. Right now my motivation is to learn the skill of reloading, make an accurate 223 load and save some money about equally. I want to get into some longer distance stuff, first with my AR at 400-600 ranges and then a 308 bolt action that I plan on buying sometime next year.

I am all for the buy once theory. I would go straight to a progressive if I thought I would bulk load 9mm but I think 9mm is still cheap enough to not worry about that. Are the Rock Chucker set ups generally a much higher quality unit? I agree with you Marn, there is no room for scrimping on quality when it comes to things that go bang near your face and hands!

My dad and I share a progressive. When the whole ammo craze was really bad we could still load up anything we owned, but we've got all of our supplies pretty bulked up before all the craziness. It made sense before a lot of people were reloading. Now that the demand for components have gone up you don't save the kind of money you used to. I don't really reload much at all anymore because we've gotten to the point where we have a fairly substantial quantity of most the caliber we have. I've also got a shotgun press that I haven't really messed with. We only used to use it for seeing what all you can shoot out.

Is this why you are selling your Kahr; to fund reloading supplies? What do you think of that desantis holster?

The thought crossed my mind but the Kahr is leaving because I want to try something different. It's a great little gun with the 7 round mag but I'm kind of like Marn, gun a.d.d :) The Desantis is not bad, a solid feel to when drawing from it. It's not as positive reholstering but that's a function of the softer leather. It's comfortable to wear and the adjustable cant is a great feature.

Powrjunkey of course has ruined me talking about the Dillon 550! I made the mistake of watching it work in a their youtube video, that thing is pretty badass with all the addons. Now I want one, lol!

Keep an eye out on CL, BP, and eBay. There are deals to be made on them fairly often, surprisingly. All their stuff is lifetime warranty. I had to send mine in when I first got it, and they replaced everything that was worn, and reset all the adjustments. I just had to pay for shipping.

Thanks Roobicon.

I did notice that the Rock Chucker turret kit comes with a lifetime warranty and is only about $70 more than the Lee turret kit.
