OK, I stole the idea from the YJ forum but it's a great idea so let this thread be an inspiration for all of us doing mods, maintenance, or repairs to our TJ's! :D

Personally, I installed my trusty Uniden CB into my new Rubicon.

I'm not an expert...but maybe the starter isn't disengaging fast enough or something.

I'd put the other bolt in & then I'd swap it for another one if it still grinds, before I'd start shimming it. My experience is sometimes parts store reman parts are hit or miss.

Sucks about having to squeeze back in there...Haha I'm not a big guy, if I were close I'd help ya out

Thanks for the reply :D

As for swapping it out with another one, it's not necessarily going to be that easy. I found the starter on Amazon for about 1/3rd the price of what Advance Auto quoted me for. It also had free shipping. Too good to be true? Who knows... but it had 9 positive reviews. Seems lately that more and more of my lousy paychecks are going towards replacing something else on the Jeep--and most of the time it's not even an upgrade, it's just replacing something OE that fails. lol!

The starter has a warranty behind the good reviews, but it would certainly not be ideal to have to ship it back and wait for another one. I kept the old starter, and in a pinch I guess I could put it back in, but it's my daily.

I watched several videos of starter/flywheel grinding on Youtube and I'm pretty convinced it just needs shims. I guess starters are moderately universal between quite a few vehicles and sometimes the aftermarket starters aren't perfectly OE specs. It's not ideal, but it saved me a hundred bucks.

It could also be your transmission mount. Ask me how I know...
That was my second choice.

Just going from memory, but isn't it a plate bolted to the skid with 4 7mm bolts or something like that

New shoes for the Jeep. 33" MTR's.
MTR/K's, right? Looks great. I love that color, too.

I run MTR/K's too, and I'll only give you one suggestion: rotate REALLY regularly. I'm absolutely in love with these tires but I got lax on rotating regularly and the front tires have now worn much faster than the rears. I've only rotated maybe twice, and they're definitely not wearing evenly. If I hadn't been so preoccupied with everything else, I could have caught that before it became a serious issue.

Yes, they are Kevlar. Funny you mention that. The Manager at Discount Tire wanted me to fully understand that I don't miss a rotation cycle with them every 4k or expect uneven wear.
They are considerably louder then the previous Duratracs I had on, but that is a minor trade off to me.

Haha, I just went the other way... Traded mtr's for duratracs... Much too noisy for all my highway travel.
