As I'm starting to have to trace more and more wires in my CJ7, as well as having a new dash and re-wire on the winter to-do list, I decided to take the time to color in the CJ wiring diagram. As all I could ever find online were black and white images of the OEM wire diagrams, I traced all wires and colored them according to what was labeled to make things easier. Everything should be pretty close, and hopefully will provide everyone a much easier reference when working on any CJ in the future. Enjoy.

Hey Waterdawg,

Do you still have this file? If so, I'd love to have you send it my way. :cheers2:

Yes I do. PM me your email. I will look on a my home PC tonight if not I will send it out tomorrow morning. Your want .jpg or .pdf

This is why Jeep forum needs to have a place these type of thing can be kept for members to download.

I'm about 60% done making a CAD file from one of the old jpeg images. Based on enthusiasm here for colored markups I'm guessing a live CAD file may be of use to some? Especially handy if you have CAD and want to change things to match your existing Jeep... I plan to make each wire a polyline, meaning that if you select it in CAD then the whole wire is selected, from end to end. Guess we'll see, I've been chipping away at it when other Jeep stuff isn't more pressing.

Hey John,

I'm starting to get a complex.

This is the third, or fourth, time in the last week that your pics won't post for me, but no one else seems to be having problems with them. What's weird it's only your stuff that I can't see. No problems with any other posts from other members.

Am I just a retard? Is it a Mac/PC thing? Or my slow-azz satellite connection? Forum server? :dunno: Any ideas?

Matt

The numbers are circuit numbers that you would find in most schematics of the CJ. I was just pointing out the circuit number's colors stayed the same up until 1982. Then they started to mace changes in the nomenclature although the colors and gauge remained mainly unchanged.

The Letters on later CJ's matched up with the letter designation on the bulkhead connector.

Hello,
In going through this post I ended up a little confused. The original poster seems to have been working on an 83 CJ7 (or at least that is the only model in their signature). Can someone clarify what years this diagram covers? I am working on an 83 CJ7 that was left out in the desert for about 15 years and I am working to solve some light issues.

Thanks

The original schematic has glass fuses and an heater motor that is internal to the passenger compartment

This puts it in the range of 76 to 77.

Definitely not for an 83.

I'll see if I can find an 83 schematic someplace. I can't access my files onl;ine anymore.

Ok I know this is old but it is awesome. I just solved a backup light problem in less than 30 minutes. I know I am going to love this site. I have found a ton of information already just with the search function. This is my second jeep and it seems over the years the PO's just can't keep control of the wiring and though my current is no where near as bad as my last one it is still a mess.

Great Site!!

Thanks so much for this!

I just got a Jeep project which is part CJ5 1956 (Frame and various dash parts) and part 1978 CJ7, otherwise. However, it's a mess, clearly used as off road and farm vehicle, not up to CA code, and once I removed the custom dash I realized most of the wires are missing or cut, as well as an oil pressure gage wire off the 289 Stock Ford engine inside. See, a mess. So this diagram was a big smile for me, as I ordered an OEM harness to go with my OEM jeep dash. Now, just to figure out the 56 dash mounted ignition with my CJ steering column with no ignition key switch...

It's not that hard.
