A friend of mine said he once found what he believes is an old missle silo inside a chain link and barbed wire fence out in the woods, also in northern Cali, but he couldn't remember how to get back to it to show it to me.
This is not find something unusual, however while camping just recently in the Michigan UP on a Jeep trip, we were at a quiet camp site in a wooded area. Sometime in the night, I woke up in an instant as I heard foot steps right outside my tent. The foot steps were not of an animal, at least of the four-legged kind. When I camp, I have started to setup some inexpensive motion detection lights around my tent. I first immediately questioned myself, "Did I really hear those foot steps or dream them?" But I noticed that one of the lights that I setup was on (as the top of the tent had light on it, otherwise it was super dark).
So I jumped right out of my sleeping bag, unzipped the tent, and got out as fast as I could. No one was around of course. There were not walking trails around me, and no reason to pass through my camp site. My wife just assumed I had gotten up to pee, and also got up. I didn't tell her why I really got out of the tent.
That's one of the weird things about tent camping is what's out there in the middle of the night while you sleep? That's the first time I've had that happen.
I think I might have been the weirdo once... I was bird hunting with my brother in law in his Jeep in Northern Maine, we were cruising down a dirt road going from one hunting spot to another, and we saw a guy and girl off the side of the road with a shovel digging in the dirt. My BIL says "Hey, that's my buddy Jim," he flies up to them, skidding sideways to a stop, jumps out and yells "Hey, who you burying?" They looked at us in disbelief and I'm sure they heard banjos playing - turns out it wasn't his buddy, just two people trying to clear out the end of a driveway into their woodlot. The look on their faces was priceless!
I bought the driveway motion sensor for my camping.
I camp in a motor home so if anyone was messing with my Jeep I would sleep right through it.
I set the PIR sensor pointing at my Jeep, then the receiver is in the motor home. (wireless setup)
You can just set the sensor in your back seat and put the receiver in your house/apartment etc... and if someone breaks in you will know.
I think it was $12 at Harbor Freight.
You never know when somebody is gunna' touch your junk.

Get a budget lift and 32" tires. That's my set up now but im im bumping it to 4.25"s of lift and 33" tires. With only a 2" budget with 32s I managed to get through a trail that was rated extreme. ;p
I saw these fresh black bear prints on a trail I was on in South Western WI, which isnt exactly bear territory to being with - mostly just cows and corn.

Back a couple years ago, my dad and I took an impromptu trip down to Yellowstone Park. We hiked in on a trail for about 2 miles then turned around at the Forest Service cabin. As we backtracked, we saw a set of grizzly prints overlapping our own. Every single hair on the back of my neck stood straight on end! We never saw or heard the bear, but the tracks were following ours EXACTLY, sometimes even covering our own boot prints in the snow. Needless to say, from that point, we hauled *** back to the car! I have pictures of the tracks somewhere around here, but they were 13-14" from heel to claw. Thats 4 sizes larger than what I wear, and 2 bigger than my dads. One big bear, I tell ya what!
Black bears aren't too bad though. From what I've heard, a good deal of them are even scared of people. Now Kodiaks and brown bears, not only are they braver but also larger than black bears. Those are the one's you don't want to mess with.
Years ago me, my gf, and a few other friends went to the blue ridge mountains. We came around a curb and there were two black bear cubs playing just off the side of the road. They wanted to stop and pet them so I pulled over and said "okay, y'all have at it but I'm not getting out of the car." They looked at me and said "really? But they're so cute." I said " yes, they are so get out and play with them, I'll be sitting right here. Just know Mama bear isn't far away and when she comes out of the woods I'm flooring it whether y'all are in the car or not!"

haha yeah, same thing with cows and people that come over to my house. They are cute but so are wolves. I am not going out in the field with them without some equipment.
Gotta be careful where you wheel here meth labs EVERYWHERE. We even had the police in our school warning us and telling us what to do if we were to come across one.
