Well the rut is almost among us here in upsate NY! Our weather is becoming consistant in the mornings and just recently cooling off nice during the evening hunt. It's only a matter of time before the big boys start making mistakes, and we start sending arrows through em! Go Get Em guys/gals!
I can't wait untill muzzleloader season, that my favorate season. I'll admit it I think the bow is extremly hard to kill a deer with and can be frustrating, I just wish the deer were comming in during the day. Like the last few days we left the woods at like 6:15 and on the trail camera the deer are comming in at 6:30 .
PS I love upstate NY I went to a ranch there and I shot my first animal with the gun and then with back and shot my first with the bow there. And I'm from RI

Yeah I absolutely love hunting with my in-line, I just ordered the TC Encore Endeavor, had to finally retire my CVA Optima after 10 seasons of slaying deer with it. During gun season thats all I use unless were putting on drives, my county is shotgun/muzzleloader only.

Oh yeah, when I run into that problem of nocturnal bucks I usually, depending on the time of year, either make a mock scrape and put doe in estrus on it, or this time of year put buck urine on it. More than likely if he's the dominate buck in the area he's gonna want to meet the other buck making scrapes in his area. Good luck and Go Get Em!
We have a dominant buck in the area he's a nice 8 pointer what should I do

Sometimes it's tough to bring em in during shooting hours, especially since he didnt get that big by being stupid. I'd say wait him out on stand, sooner or later he'll get stupid and hopefully chase a doe right by ya. Otherwise, now is the time to find the doe's and watch carefully who's trailing or pushing them. I've found that during this time of the rut (pre-rut) your going to usually see a lot of younger buck activity, as they go into rut sooner however, my buddy Mike (Sadass) just killed a monster 8 last Thu. pushing does around. So this time of year it's a crap shoot, either continue to put buck piss on his scrapes and hunt them, or start laying down doe piss on them and hunt them. Either way ya def. need to keep the wind in your favor. If he winds you it's pretty much all over for that old fella lol Moral of the story, spend as much time on stand with a good wind, your chances will improve the closer it gets to prime time rut! Go Get Em!

He got it down in Texas...around here in South West Ohio I have an 8 pointer that beds down in my backyard all the time. The news had a 12 pointer running across a major road during rush hour. We are honestly infested. They are everywhere, all year.

Not many hunters by you, or not enough land? Where I'm at were feeling the effects of the city folks moving up to the ''Country'' The last 10-15 years my county has seen so much change because of this, countless new homes, land clearing ect. Now the deer are everywhere since they hardly have any acres of there own, and especially now that the rut is close a few bucks have already been hit by vehicles. It really is a shame, wish I could get out of here and move north or to a different state even. Anyway, hope everyone is staying safe in the woods and get the opportunity to harvest a big one. Go Get Em!

Actually my buddy lives in Atlanta and took a hunting trip so I can't speak to the level of deer there. As for here in Cincy, in city limits there is no hunting allowed obviously, but they are everywhere. Just last month I hit one while driving an ambulance, and on two separate occasions multiple deer have just wandered through the urban square I work on.

Sucks when there destiny is getting squashed by vehicles. Not much ya can do I guess, same as here and a lot of places anymore.

lol I totally understand the frustration, hopefully soon enough you'll start seeing some movement. I hunt food sources prior to and after the rut, acorns, beech nut, and mountain laurel. Unfortunately thats all I have to hunt over here in upstate NY however, in other states or farms with corn, alf-alfa, soy beans ect. thats your best bet. But once the rut begins I always switch to hunting scrapes, rubs, and mainly does. If ya play the wind right you'll most likely start seeing horns. I always get excited when I see a doe now, hoping to see a buck trailing her however, if she's still with her fawns she's not in estrus. Keep at it bud, and Go Get Em! I'll be out after work!

I swear I have the worst dam luck I've been going hunting every day for like 2 weeks and haven't seen anything...and today I didn't go cuz I had a **** load of homework but my dad went and he can see my tree stand from his, and he said there was 7 deer in front of my treestands about 20 yards away. These dam deer are smarter then I thought.

Keep up on that homework and you'll be just as smart soon enough! Lol.. just kidding! No matter how dumb deer are, their instinct and senses are amazing. Be patient because them bucks are starting their "stupid and horny" phase!

Thats right bud, get on out there and stick one! Yesterday afternoon I decided to do some blind calling during the magic hour and much to my surprise I ended up calling in a year and a half old 5 pointer. It was neat watching him walk down my lane within 10 yards under me looking for a hot doe. He was flicking his tail like crazy and had his jowels curled up, so all in all it's a great sign! I decided to let him walk, so hopefully this coming week that decision will pay off with a decent two and a half year old or better. Good luck today and Go Get Em!

Oh, I even have a pic.

Plus, alpacas are known to be friendly around other animals, and are even used as shepherds or herd 'protectors' for sheep, goats.

How's everyone else doing? Well, to be completely honest with y'all, I missed a nice 8 last week, not once, but twice! I'm no expert by any means however, I'm not accustomed to missing, and he even gave me a follow up shot, but still missed lol Well needless to say I was heart broken but I am thankful he's still alive and I didn't wound him. Since I just got married I can finally hunt a bit more now then before when my wife and I were planning our day, comes at a great time since gun season opens this sat. Hope everyone is staying safe and enjoying the woods! I'll check back soon, hopefully gun season produces a couple big guys for us all! Go Get Em!

LOL glad it worked out for ya's, man it's tough missing them! Well, opening weekend of gun I didnt see anything, I go up north and hunt my buddies mtn. every opening weekend, then came home and have ben letting does walk, still havent seen any horns with the gun. This year I finally got my Thompson Center Encore prohunter, so thats what I've been using instead of the 870, I really enjoy black pouder, plus 200 yards is nothing for my or really any inline muzzleloader to reach out to. Well folks, keep posting up bow/gun kills, hopefully I'll have one of my own here shortly. Go Get Em!
