Im planning out a build for an xj that I am looking at picking up. The jeep with be a daily driver/weekend wheeler which I am looking to run 33s. I will most likely trim the fenders and or run some kind of flares cause of the tire coverage laws. I have narrowed it down to 3 kits but I am not sure which one to go with so if you guys could help me choose that would be awesome and if you guys could recommend anything that I should add to them that they don't offer. I am some what new to xjs but I have read up some on them so if there is any other mods that you could recommend that would be much appreciated thanks. (The xj with be a 1996-1999)

I have the RE 3.5. So far, 2000 or so miles on it, 7-800 off road, and it is working great. It did sag about 1.5 inches up front but when the truck is loaded out, it evens out and works well.

Agreed. I would piece it together or at least see if you could upgrade the track bar to a double-shear type for one of the kits you show. But I sure wouldn't do the middle one that is a 5.5" lift on short arms - that is going to ride terrible. If you have a 96+ don't forget to budget for an SYE - you'll likely need it at 4.5" of lift.

I agree with piecing together plan. It's cheaper to get lightly used stuff when people upgrade to bigger and buy what you need new when you have to. No offense to "Rusty's" I've got your 4.5 rear leafs on my 91. I bought them new 5 yrs ago and they've been great.

Thanks for all the replies and advice. So I guess my next questions would be then what companies would you go with is you piece it together of leafs, coils, shocks, control arms, track bar, shackles, sye/driveshaft, ect.......

thanks

(Keep in mind that I will most likely stay short arm and 33s)

Explain how this is horrible at 3 inches?? You can redril the hole and the axle WILL be centered. Would I like an ajustable? Yes but it's ridiculously expensive.
Redrilling a hole in thin metal is stupid I've seen redrilled mounts tear . 125 is not much to spend. The stock trackbar was not designed to work at the angle of a 3" lift especially when cycling offroad.

It's plenty strong enough. To help mine I welded the right size washer to the bracket to help. And the stock track bar is fine for offroad. I've used my cheapie 36$ track bar off eBay for over a year with no problems. Flexes great. I can see tho where u can run into problems after somebody has instaled 12-14 travel shocks and it flexes so much it binds the factory trac bar.

My biggest concern is also the mount but if your reinforcing it I'd say that might be adequate for mild lifting and average wheeling. Tom has a solid point though, you really can't be "to" careful when it comes to steering components.
It all depend on the setup. 3 inches and 31 or 33s youl be fine for average wheeling. Have you personally broke that trac bar mount?

No, but I never relocated the hole either. I went right to replacing the bar with an adjustable one. I have seen many oval'd out after moving the hole.
Yup. What one did u go with? On my gfs zj we got her the pro comp one (180$) and I wasent impressed. The bar itself you could watch it slightly bend by just turning the wheel back and forth.

At the axle side? What broke and what were you doing?
Mount on axle end wallowed out even with welded washers got death wobble then the part that connects to the frame busted and the bar dropped. While I was going 25mph on a road. I did wheel that jeep often but they were mild trails

So the problem is not with the OE style track bar it's with the brackets that it bolts to. The same thing can happin if you swap an ajustable trac bar in. I guess if you're having that problem you wana fab up some heavy duty brackets instead. Or buy some.
