a tuneable whip i believe has a coil in the bottom inside that plastic base which you adjust the rings over top of to tune it. yeah you are right about 1:1, meant to type 1.5!
Ok, that makes much more sense. Anything from 1.6:1 down is quite good...depending on resistance and reactance, but this isn't a radio forum so I'll leave it at that. I didn't realize there are externally tuned whips for mobile. My A99 base antenna uses that method of fine tuning.

blues brothers style would be dead center on top of the roof. You gotta watch the movie to fully understand.

It's been a while since I was here...about 2 months...but I have still been having fun with the Jeep. Recently acquired a '03 grille in blue with the chrome rings. Taped off the rings, hit it with black plasti-dip and installed. Looks pretty good with the PS5 paint. Had the opportunity to grab parts from a PS5 paint coded Limited. Wanted the same grille with color matched paint, but when I went to get it, the yard sold the ENTIRE jeep. DAMN!
Currently working on a couple of issues...Need to pull radiator and thread tape the lower transmission cooling line. It's seeping.
-Need to replace the upper control arm and ball joint in the rear. Looks like a pain! Heard there is an aftermarket one...is there a link?
-Need to replace the front sway bar bushings. Going with polyurethane.
-Some kind of rattle in the front. I hear it reflecting off cars as I pass them. Noticed the pads are floating in the slides. ANNOYING!
-There is a clicking sound in the front as I turn RIGHT, but not left. CV axle?
-4WD clicks when engaged. Need to figure that one out...doesn't sound like an easy fix.

Other than that, still enjoying my first Jeep!

where under the hood do u have it because I don't see it being that loud.
Could be the type of speaker I have as well. I have it mounted passenger side by the firewall where there's lots of room.No problem hearing it at all and volume isn't even cranked up on it. How loud do you need it? so people two blocks away hear it? Anywhere in the vicinity there's no issue. It'll go louder than my scanner will, and it's pretty loud.
