I did not read all 8 pages but I had my recall done on my 09 Hemi XK with QD2 and now I get "service 4wd soon" when cranking the engine and if I try to put the t-case in 4-low it will not go in, even with the tranny in "N". My 09 has 38,000 miles on it and I have the lifetime power train warranty.
If I take it back for this will the repair be covered by the warranty?
If you call and be persistent with them they should get things right. I had to call Chrysler and the service manager multiple times. The service manager where I am actually has the same problem on his Jeep that we've experienced and is getting his fixed with a new actuator
I spoke to a jeep tech at a different dealership then the one that performed my recall flash. He said that the recall should state that if the 4WD does not work after the recall is fixed, the dealer must fix it. Guess I'll be reading the fine print.
My 2010 5.7 HEMI Overland would not start this morning. I called road service, they said they couldn't get it started either. I have the "Service the 4wd System " warning in the dash. Spoke to dealer, my warranty is out by 3 months, they are seeing what they can do to help. I've also contacted the Chrysler head office in Melbourne (Australia) to see what they can do (I was on the phone to Tracee at the head office customer service centre just last Thursday to see what the story was on the Final Drive Controller recall. & now this.) All I can do is wait & see what happens.
The dealer quote me $135 per hour for diagnosis + repairs. They're upset because they haven't serviced the car in 18 months. The soonest they can look at it is next wednesday 9 October 2013. I told the dealer principle that the reason the car wasn't serviced with them was because of these kind of situations. Waiting for a tow now, after having spoken to Chrysler Australia.
My jeep is going in for some maintenance this week, i told the service writer not to do the recall for now, i have a roadtrip to do and i dont want a 4wd failure.
I wonder if unplugging the actuator before flashing the recall would save the actuator from failure....
I've read through the recall. It specifically states "the 245 transfer case is an automatic 4WD system that shifts into and out of 4WD modes and ranges automatically or based on customer inputs. The shifting IS ACCOMPLISHED WITH AN ELECTRICAL ACTUATOR (composed of a motor, gearing and electrical position encoder) AND IS COMMANDED BY THE FINAL DRIVE CONTROL MODULE."
Seems to me that if the Jeep dealer doesn't fix it for me, all hell will break loose.
We'll if you think about they ultimately fixed the problem of it shifting to neutral and rolling away. They fixed it so good that it just doesn't shift.
The number I called in case you get the "service 4wd system" message wasn't any help at all. The lady was real rude and said that the recall has nothing to do with the 4wd system.
I called my dealer today, explained what has happened. They said to bring it by and they would make it right again, on Chryslers dime! I had no issues with my dealer fixing it. We will see if the actual repair goes as good as the conversation did on the phone.
So far so good. First time in, the update didn't work. Brought it back to the dealership and they spent a good hour on it. Said they ended up resetting the computer before everything started working correctly. Been about two weeks now and still no problems. Got the Commander used and wonder if someone had a different tune on the computer because the shift points seem cleaner now and mileage a bit better which the update shouldn't have effected, but the reset could have.
Well I went about three weeks and thought I was in the clear. Tried low tonight and the service 4wd is back. Guess I'm carrying the dealer again tomorrow.
Wish we could get a group of us together and then all call Chrysler. Everyone needs to keep checking their 4 low and continue to call them. This needs to be addressed.
I just got a call back from the dealership, after towing my 2010 5.7 Hemi Overland there this morning. The gent in the service dept. tells me they aren't able to communicate with the vehicle, & haven't diagnosed the problem yet. (I think that means they aren't getting any fault codes back from the diagnostic gear) . More news to come. Not bad for $135 per hour
The actuator. I'm guessing the recall shorts out the actuator but I'm not sure how replacing it with that same software will fix it but by the looks of it its working for everyone else.
