I had the Commander (4.7L, QTII) in for the recall less than two weeks ago, dealer performed the "reprogram final drive controller" reflash.

This morning I went to use 4wd low (first time since reflash), and immediately got the "Service 4wd System" light. It did not engage 4-low.

Light disappears once vehicle is restarted but comes back immediately if I attempt to go to 4-low, and stays on until I turn it off and restart.

Has anyone else who has had the recall performed experienced this?

If you've had it done, you may want to check.

I have an appointment to have it looked at so we wll see what happens, and I will update as I learn more.

Check your 4-low before signing off on the repair/recall.

I did and it worked. It was a couple weeks later that I tried and got the error. I think that's why the dealers can't figure it out and end up changing the actuators. They don't really know what's causing it.
Ahhhhhh, I see.
I didn't realize that some issues not occurring right away. Definitely sounds like a fast, unthought out fix to me. I think I will wait for recall 2.0 and just practice using my E Brake more when I auto start it (which I only use in the winter anyways).
Also, my 4Lo is working fine, if it screws up after the recall, I'm past warranty so the dealer will try to ding me for parts this recall broke.

Had recall flashed and 4lo stopped working a week later. Took in for repair and had to have actuator replaced. Not sure if it was caused by recall, but seems odd. Just thought I would share.

Oh, got Service 4WD System message when trying to engage 4Lo.

Luckily I have extended warranty, but $100 deductible. So getting a clunking noise in front end fixed as well (They think it is the passenger side drive shaft)

08 Jeep Commander.

I'm in Canada and i just got the second notice that my dealer is ready to apply the fix. I worry for my actuator though. I think i will hold off for another month.

Don't get it done. It will mess up and probably not work right ever again. Mine has been in 3 times and still no 4 low and they want to replace the actuator. They'll do it under warranty in a heartbeat bc they know that's the problem but if you don't have warranty, like my case, they will try and stick it to you. Funny thing is is that they were shown it worked flawlessly when I dropped it off the first time for the recall and now after 3 times I have to deal with Chrysler about getting them to fix the problem they caused.

Took my 05 WK in to the dealer about a week ago for the front diff actuator. Since the jeep is new to me I asked them to check and see if the N23 recall had been done. When i got the jeep back they told me it hadn't been and that they had taken care of it while it was in the shop. I was a little ticked since i hadn't asked them to do it I had just wanted to know if it had been done. Guess it was partly my fault for not being clear. Either way i checked 4-low before I left and all was good, at least until i checked today. Now as soon as you pull the lever it gives the service 4wd and wont engage. Guess its back to the dealer to see what my options are.

+1 here; called the 800 number listed in one of these posts to tell Chrysler about their "fix". I have a warranty that will take care of repairs, but just trying to do my part so others can get the repair covered by Chrysler.

What did they say?
When i called to check earlier they said they were still running diagnostics.. Hopefully find out tomorrow. I see your from NLR can I ask what dealer your dealing with? I've used landers in benton for service work before and been very pleased but that was for my wife's charger.

Just retuned from the dealer. Only took about 29 minutes. They were not meticulous about following steps 15/16. They got it right this time. They tested it three times and I tested itself before driving off. All's well now it seems. I'll check it in a week or two again to be sure!

So far so good. First time in, the update didn't work. Brought it back to the dealership and they spent a good hour on it. Said they ended up resetting the computer before everything started working correctly. Been about two weeks now and still no problems. Got the Commander used and wonder if someone had a different tune on the computer because the shift points seem cleaner now and mileage a bit better which the update shouldn't have effected, but the reset could have.

I think in most cases people never use 4lo. Except the people on this forum. Most people buy a jeep and drive it as a commuter car.

That's probably what Chrysler was hoping for.

It's all a numbers game unfortunately.

Crappy for us the customers.
Yes it is crappy. Someone is going to pay for mine other then me though. Not right they will fix it if you have warranty bc if the recall but with no warranty you're screwed.

It was very interesting to see this thread, same thing happened to me right after the recall was performed. They replaced the actuator is back in working order again. Thought it was just a fluke or my luck.

Clearly it seems like Chrysler researched the issue long enough before they issued the recall.

I'm an Micro-Electronics Engineer by training and a cracked circuit board is a cracked circuit board. Since circuit boards are multi-layer designs now. Every crack probably affects different branches of circuits. It's a flawed design and that's why it's probably broken.

The only real fix is to redesigned the crack board. I hope Chrysler does it's customers right and replace all the bad FDCM.

This is what a lot of manufacturers are switching to now. Eliminate the Circuit board = No more cracking.

wait... so if you do not have a warranty they want to charge to fix a recalled part? That is madness....
The part hasn't been recalled. That's the issue. The N23 recall is like a software update. The actuators are failing AFTER the update, but so far Chrysler refuses to admit the two are related. They act like it's just a huge effing coincidence.

When mine was in the second time, the SM was all "I've got another one here with the same issue. I've got a call into Chrysler to see what's going on." Then when I picked it up he had changed his tune: "It wasn't related to the recall. It was just one if those things." Yeah, good answer.

My 2010 still had the powertrain warranty, so they fixed it for free and I didn't argue. If it's expired, get ready for a fight. Or just hold off for now and keep using your parking brake.
