Hey everyone,

Im at a loss here. I have a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2 L

While driving my Jeep the other day i get a Check engine light that popped on, immediately i noticed a voltage drop on my gauge, and the car began to sputter, bucking and wanting to die in the middle of an intersection. I was about 1 mile from home, and wound up limping it to my driveway (thankfully).

I got the OBD code for a bad TPS sensor. No problem easy fix. I go down to autozone grabbed the new TPS (duralast), and install it without issue. I turn the key in the ignition, the car fired over and died about 1.5 seconds later. I attempted to start it again but the motor just cranks and cranks but wont fire.

I figured its possible i have a bad battery/connections. Get new connections for the terminals and have the battery tested. Those are all good. I attempted to start the car again, same thing. Crank but doesnt fire.

Out of curiosity i take off the new TPS sensor and put back the old one. Last time i tried to start it with the old sensor it started, but just ran like crap. Same thing, car cranks wont turn over.

Checked spark plugs and wires - good
Had replaced cap/rotor etc 1.5 years ago
Checked air filter - good
Checked alternator - good
Hooked the car up and tried to jump it - check
Disconnected battery overnight thinking the computer may need to reset.
Fuel filter - its good
Checked to see if it was getting fuel to the fuel lines - check

At this point i am out of ideas. Has anyone come across something similar, or have an idea of what to do next. I did a search on multiple forums and couldnt find a problem that was exactly like mine. I did see that some people say that the after market TPS sensors are crap. Any ideas or clues would be much appreciated.

(i hope i posted this in the right section, my apologies if not)

So finally got around to rebuilding the ECM. New caps in it. It was not nearly as hard as i thought it would be, but i accidentally bought a 30w soddering gun, and yeah....that didnt work to well. So after buying a new 60w gun, easy fix. Car starts right up, idles well. When i jiggle the ECM wires, no change. Thought "Great! Problem solved!".

Running it home, had a few voltage drops, but it would come right back. Then after 10 miles, turned onto my street to pull into the driveway and voltage drop and CEL light. 21 oxygen sensor, and 46 are the codes. Going to disconnect the oxygen sensor next and run it like that, to see if it will solve the problem.

And failed the test drive. Drove it fine for 15 min, then noticed a small voltage drop that came back quickly, then dropped again. Pulled into my driveway, put the car in park and the idle kicked back up and bounced around a bit, then it wound up dying again. Once again O2 sensor is the only code it gives. I tried jiggling the ECM wires, just to rule that out, but no change in idle or how it ran (yay i guess). I will pull it into the garage tomorrow and make sure the o2 sensor didnt shift, and none of the wires are touching anything.

Well, it seems that the o2 sensor wiring is good. For the fun of it, i installed a TPS sensor that i got from the junkyard (the sensor that was in there was from NAPA, their top of the line), and swapped out the IAC with a junkyard part, and its idled well for 30 min, no studders or voltage drops. Is it possible with the non OEM TPS sensor, that the readings were just off, leading to a lean fuel mixture causing the o2 sensor to read bad?

I didnt get a chance to test drive it yet (pooring down rain, and i wasnt going to drag an 8 year old kid with me), that will be tomorrow. There was just a slight flutter of the RPMS after about 20 minutes of idling. Is it possible thats just the ECM relearning?

Well i ran it for 30 min with no problems....then stopped at the gas station and it died as i pulled to the pump. Started right back up with no CEL. Still checked and code 21 and 52 which is o2 sensor and running rich. But still ran fine.....ran fine all the way back home, no CEL after that. So weird.

Day 1 of daily driving. Ran great to work with no hickups. Idle steady just over 600 RPMS, no low voltage indications.
