Thinking of selling 89 XJ

I am thinking of selling my 89 XJ to get my wife-to-be something a little more comfortable. I am unsure what I can get for it.

Its an 1989 2-door 4.0 auto with about 116k miles. Its in overall good condition, and spent most of its life in the south. There is very little rust (although there is a bit on the bottom of the doors) and the underbody is very clean. No real problems, just the typical XJ stuff. It takes a few seconds of cranking to start, but has never failed to start in the ~3 years we have owned it. Runs strong and the 4wd works with no issues.

It has a new aluminum radiator, water pump, front U/LCA's, steering stabilizer, and some other stuff. This was all replaced to get rid of a slight death wobble case last year (very stable now!!). It also has a set of 235/75/15 Pathfinder tires with about 10k on them.

The Jeep is currently located in Dracut, MA. I may also be willing to trade the wheels/tires for a stock set plus cash if anybody is interested. Follow link for a picture, I have more if needed.

The Jeep actually is hers so she does love it, and she is a brunette :) Its more an issue of a daily driver for her to get to and from work with that has some more creature comforts.

A Grand Cherokee is high on the list for the replacement. Right now I'm trying to get an idea of how much I can get for her XJ.

More comftable??? My 89 2-door XJ is way more comfortable than my BMW 325!
I have a BMW 330Xi, and can say that it is deffinately more comfortable than the Jeep.

The XJ is great, but for a host of reasons we think its the right decision to move on. I was thinking it would go somewhere in the 1-2k range especially since the snow has started to come down. It really is in good shape for an 89 and has low mileage. I'm thinking of asking 2k for it and see what kind of offers I get. Better to start a little high and let the buyer work the price down.

And don't worry too much about us selling since the replacement will probably be another Jeep.

Yours is an E46, his is probally an E30 or E36. Definatly a difference between the era's.

Personal I find my BMW interior to be a bit "cramped". Oh wait, it's not a daily driver

You race DTM ? Do a few track days ? I have an 1987 325i 5 speed and the big 6 in it.

Currently have 3 track cars, 2 of them being E30's (one a 325is and other a M3). Definatly have quite a bit of track time as I am a driving instructor for BMWCCA. I've got several E30's, as they are definatly my other passion in life. Have a '90 325iS 3.0L stroker with a Lowen Design supercharger. Definatly a fun car :) As in big six I'm going to assume you've done the M30 conversion,?

mylt1: thanks for the tip, I'll send fetchva a PM. EDIT: I just sent a PM and it said there was no user by the name of fetchva. Is that the correct spelling?

Didn't realize there were other BMW enthusiests on here

My car is deffinately not a track car, but I get out and do as many BMWCCA events as I can. Mostly autox events, but also a few DE's each year.

Thanks, just sent the PM to fitchva.

The rust really isn't much, just a small amount of surface spots on the bottom of the doors. I'll try and take some more pics of the inside/outside and post them here. Does $2k sound reasonable for a low mileage 89 in good condition with basically new steelies and 235/75/15 rubber?

Since we're already off topic, and it's a pretty depressing thread since 89Cherokee wants to sell his jeep, you think we could spruce up the thread with some more of your track car pics?

Also, $2k seems reasonable, thats probably what it would go for in CT as long as its in good condition (which it sounds to be).

Don't be too depressed. We're not leaving the Jeep family, just getting a younger model
