The first things I did all took place in the first 2 hrs after agreeing to buy it. The worst visual issues:
dirt pounded into the rubber window seals and flares,
rubber trim was either hanging or missing
windows were literally frosted over w/ hard water stains
stock 225's
knicks and scratches in the paint and all the black trim (all black trim didn't really turn my crank either),
And the bee's, it had been sitting all summer and had 7 bee hives inside and out.
At this point, I had changed the tires and painted the grill.
I'm debating on doing the wide sections of the hood and the wiper cowl in black (without dp). I've thought about the liner, and have decided to do it gloss black.
I don't get it. I've gotten more negative responses on each mod in it's planning stage. And yet, in person, not a soul can keep from staring at my Jeep.
This black stripe has been shot down by every person I've shown this pic to. I'm still doing it. I'm anxious as hell to do it. I need to find the vinyl at a reasonable price first. I'm also still trying to decide what to use to make the dp black. The paint I was considering is VHT Chassis and Rollbar, I don't want it textured, any suggestions other than this?

I agree with this. And I'm usually the guy who tells you to do all the crazy ****. I'm a big fan of the color (at least after you've done what you did).
If you are conflicted, do it with plasti-dip, and if it's ugly, peel it off.
The sides are a must cuz I've got pressure marks (not quite dents) on one quarter and both doors. The hood doesn't need the cover-up. I just thought it'd look cool, and again, the hood scheme would not include any more dp. But it would help my current dp hood vents to stand out a little more
I got the window, getting the tint on, a couple days to dry, and in it goes. Spent last night cleaning all the age off of the rubber seal, looks like new now
I don't weld and unfortunately never will... I have seizures. At this point, I'm good, it's been over 7 yrs since my last one that lasted 28 minutes. Don't need that happening while I'm holding an electric candle stick Besides, there are a few good designs out there that catch my interest. It's either the ORF f+r, or continuing on with modifying the stock ones.
The other issue is the trimming that needs done to make the aftermarket bumpers look right. I'm trying to keep from hacking up the body.
Is that sarcasm or disappointment? The tow bar is attached and braced just as any aftermarket bumper would be. Plus, in the worst of situations, I can put the tongue on and pull it home
After months of not having a back window, I got it replaced. It cost me $50, but man, do I feel stupid. I just waited 4 more days to get it put in, come to find it's ridiculously easy to install.

All I gotta do now is get it tinted. After we were done with the window, I backed out of the shop. After I got to the street, I put it in 1st and caught that bright glint from the clear window and thought I'd left the hatch open. Ha, ya, I laughed at myself.
So, I got a composition journal to document everything I've done to the XJ. Once I get the lists organized, I'll put it all on here. I swear, it'll be the longest post on this thread. There are so many things I've done, I forgot about some of them...like the dp I did under the hood.
Even more interesting than that is the list of what's to come:
30'x16" black vinyl
(2) 4'x8' sheets of 1/8" dp
Brown Dog motor mounts
Frame stiffeners
D44's f+r
SYE and driveshaft
1" spacers for the front
Longer shocks
32" MTR's
Bushwhacker Flatties
Brake extensions
Wiper cowl intake
Borla header and exhaust
Second battery
Winch
Rock rails
Skid plates
And then there's maintenance:
Brakes need done
Radiator needs replaced (probably the water pump and the overflow tank too)
Oil needs changed
Each group is a bundle project. I got a long ways to go.
