Hey guys i just had a quick question...I recently started rebuilding my motor and while i had it apart i noticed one of the pistons was cracked...i bought a new one and was told i could use the old connecting rod...i have an arbor press and from what i have researched that's all i need to mate the two...now I'm hearing that i need to take it to a machine shop so they can heat something while they connect them...is this true or can i just do it myself with the arbor press?
i dont think the arbor press will do it unless you heat the rod and maybe freeze the piston pin. when you go to put them together you better be quick about it. I used this method when installing bearings when I rebuilt my 8.8. It works great.
Heat the rod end or u risk cracking piston also freeze pin with dry ice and it should drop straight in.
No need heating it to take out but helps. Cheap propane torch works great.
Yep, Why risk breaking the new piston to save 10 bucks? :dunno:
