Hey guys, over the next 3 weeks I am planning on rebuilding T176 tranny, replacing tcase seals, replacing u joints, replacing clutch and clutch hardware. This will be my first tranny rebuilt attempt and from what I have read here I think it is defiantly do able on my end. Also planning on painting tcase and tranny, drive shafts, and frame & tub area from engine back to gas tank. Using the Novak rebuilt kit. So its going to be a little project. So my first question is for the guys that have rebuilt the t176 how long did it you to just do the rebuilt from start to finish?

I will post pictures from start to finish along the way.

Ok, wait a second... I haven't checked your thread in a while... Just looked back over the last 15 pages and can't find the answer... Did you get a JK???
No sir, Scott's correct they were day rentals. I will say I was impressed with the JK cars we rented both last year and this year. I think my CJ would have beaten us to death.

Beautiful... Love seeing these pics. May also help me too convince the wife-to-be to take a trip out there with me.. I just wonder how long it would take to travel that far in a CJ at 60-65MPH at 12MPG... Part of my dream is to take MY CJ out and travel some of those passes. Ive heard a few are closed from snow right now though. May sound silly, but growing up listening to C.W. and his stories of Black Bear Road makes me want to relive those songs - but I will not lose my Jeep over the edge of a cliff from a rock slipping out from under the wheel :)
I think I would be scared to drive my CJ some of the places we went. Other than the ride quality the wrong mechanical failure at the wrong time could lead to a very bad day.

Looks like google will be my friend with the Dwight H. Dude.

Vicki and I are home safe and sound! And more good news, the boat will be in a storage unit before the end of the week. $75 a month will give me a lot more room in the CJ, J truck, YJ, yep I still have it 1/2 converted, but driveable.

Bill
Don't bother- he has done nothing of note, and is a bit of a baby.

Glad you're home safe Papa Billy.:D

He is a basketball player.

Parents watched the kids today. Jenn and I spent the day walking through town and visiting an art fair. It was drizzling / raining on and off so the streets were pretty empty. Kind of nice.

Tomorrow is our last day. Heading to Glenwood Springs for some cave tours and. The hot springs pool.

Last day is over..

Went to the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. Great time for all. They have 2 separate cave tours and some fun rides for adults and kiddos.

And for a going away present we got a rainbow on the ride home.

Packing up and heading on the 2 day drive home first thing in the morning. Sad to leave... Thanks to those who came along for the ride!

:cheers2:

Did you ride that thing that swings out off the mountain? That looks like a real shorts soiler.

We rode them all, some 3 -4 times. The go cart looking thing was like a luge. It went 1/2 down the mountain by gravity then pulled back up by a machine. The tall tower thing was a zip line.

Stopped by the "Cadillac Ranch" on the way in to Amarillo. Gabby and Liam got a kick out of adding their names to the masses.

ready to be home now that we have left, Liam's shirt says it all...

Planning on rebuilding the oil pump on my 86 tomorrow. I have had the rebuild kit and mid plate sitting around for a while now.

I picked up these 3 dealer books off of ebay a few weeks back. One is the 1978 Data Book. The others are the 1979 Data Book and 1979 Product Information Book. They are books that the dealer had and cover all models Jeep for their year. The data books are 36 pages and show every tons of technical data. The product information book is around 20 pages and all the options, paint choices, interior fabric choices etc.

Here are some pictures from them.

Home safely from my adventure. I had the privilege of being invited to McMud / Terry's property by his son, who's name is also Terry. It was a long haul, around 8 hours each way. Terry drove in Tuesday and I left out yesterday morning at 330am. Stayed over night and got back on the road around 1030 this morning. McMud's son Terry was a great guy and I enjoyed meeting and spending time with him. He allowed my to pick through and buy what I wanted from his dads collection.

The best part of the story is Terry has never been in to jeeps. I helped him load up a perfect cj-8 tub and this beauty. McMud bought this one in Colorado and drove it all the way home to Alabama. Terry plans on swapping the tubs and getting it driving. I am hoping he chooses to share it with us and start a thread here.

Cool story bud. My internet sucks a fat one, so my pics time out about 1/4 of the way down, so I can't look at them now, but I will at work or something. I hope McMud Jr. hangs out here some too. Cool.

That's a nice SL. Hopefully Terry Jr will get the bug. His dad was a great guy, and is missed.
