So I decided to start a build thread in order to document my 8.8 build this winter, even though I should've started this thread a long time ago. But hey, better late than never, right?

Here's a current pic:

The earliest pics I can find are from my t-case swap, so I guess I'll start there. I'll try to put pics in order the best I can.

Works great, I think. I can't tell if there's any minor vibrations because of the tires, I have to throw the other ones back on and see. It gets pretty sideways in the rain now with the limited slip lol.

Saw you leaving as I was pulling in.
Yeah, I didn't stay long, only like 2.5 hours. I had to work at 2:30. I wish I could've stayed longer.

Go Topless day on saturday was pretty cool, found CTeunch's rig there. Did a little wheeling on the beginner trails and didn't have any problems, even with my front swaybar connected. But going up the first hill, my rear end flexing caused my driveshaft to hit my exhaust, and I almost **** a brick when I first heard it. Thought my jeep was falling apart lol. Bought a new master cylinder that should handle the 4 wheel discs better, might have a shop do it for $100.

Haven't updated in a while. I did my headliner today, not too difficult, just time consuming. took me all damn day lol. While it was out I grabbed some tar paper stuff from my dads shop that I've heard people using as insulation/sound deadening, so I figured I'd give it a try. Also picked up an intake manifold to do the plenum plate on. And I'm thinking of regearing sometime this summer. There has to be a bad carrier bearing in the 8.8. It makes so much noise sometimes, and other times its almost not noticeable. Either way, it bugs me. And it would be nice to have some power again lol.

Ordered some new sideview mirrors a couple days ago from rock auto. Got here yesterday and put them on today. Its amazing how much better they are. Its literally like upgrading to an hdtv lol. The old ones had so many hard water stains on them, and the drivers side has been broken since I got the jeep, so the glass would vibrate and I couldn't see anything in it.

Started ordering more parts for when I do my plenum. Got an accel cap and rotor, ordered a cam sensor and an oil pressure sending unit from mopar wholesale, and a thermostat housing, intake manifold bolts, and an air filter (just 'cause) from rock auto. I already smoothed out the runners on the inside and cleaned the whole thing inside and out. Just gotta either get it glass beaded or paint it, just cant decide what color. And heres a pic of me moving the boat into the driveway so I can work on getting it ready to hit the water.

Edit: Forgot to mention that my front drivers side tire seems to have a slow leak. Why, I have no idea. I checked it about a week ago cause it looked low and it was at 10 psi. I took it off, sprayed the beads with soapy water, no bubbles, did the same with the valve stem, nothing, found one possible culprit on a section of tread, put this leak detection stuff my dad uses for gas pipe on it and nothing. I'm out of ideas.

Sent this guy a text asking him if he wanted to separate the long arms. He just threw it on there a half hour ago, which is why he said no for right now. Hopefully I get lucky and he does!

Edit: Forgot to mention I bought a kolak exhaust minus the fm50 still in the package from a guy on thespeedfreaks, and I ordered a fm10 series at work, should be there next friday. Things gonna sound BEAST.

Intake manifold is pretty much ready to go in. I'll probably start the swap sometime next week. Also thinking about getting roller rockers for my birthday.

Got my exhaust yesterday and I've been working on it after work the last couple days. Found a piece of pipe at work that has a small s bend in it to drop down after the crossmember that was basically perfect, cut the flange to the header adapter and welded that on one end at a 10* angle, welded the cat on the other end, and got that part of it all painted with some vht header paint to keep it from rusting for as long as possible lol. I have friday off so I will pick up the muffler then and hopefully have it done shortly after. Also, I ordered those roller rockers about 2 minutes ago lol. I can't wait to hear it, this thing is gonna sound MEAN lol.

Roller rockers showed up already. Still waiting on the muffler, I ordered it last thursday and it was supposed to be at work today, but the ups guy never showed up :(

Muffler finally showed up today, so I got everything in after I got home from work. Here's a little exhaust vid. The loud bang is just a backfire lol. It has a completely different tone than before from the inside.

Boom

Have you seen any improvements with the new roller rockers? Also, have your other mods (kegger, ported TB, etc.) contributed to much noticeable gains? I'm contemplating a top end rebuild, and wanna spend my money right the first time. Thanks!

Everything together has definitely made a difference.

I've been working on my intake manifold the last couple of days, got as far as I could, had to order an egr valve gasket, so it should be all back together tomorrow. Also bought some 32lb injectors out of a 93 cobra off my boss for $150 about a month ago, so those are what went in there while it was out.

Edit: Also ordered an addco sway bar from kolak today.

#177 ·
Thanks, man. I'm really happy with the way it sounds.

So I finished my plenum, but now it wont stay running. :brickwall

#178 ·
Ended up being my injectors, put the old ones back in and its been running great ever since.

Going to be trading my tires for a set of duratracs my coworker has, plus $125 on my end. Both sets have about the same mileage, but his definitely have more tread. He's getting them dismounted on thursday to have his 35's put on, and I'll be getting mine done on friday.

#179 ·
He changed his mind, he didn't want my tires, so I just bought his anyways. I think I'm gonna end up getting them mounted on my second set of rims and use them in the winter, since they're supposed to be exceptional in the snow.

Little bit of an update, got a couple new hubs, cause one of them was shot, and it kind of ruined one of my tires a little, which you can kind of see how not a lot of tread it has in the pic. Put that one on tonight, gotta get the other one on sometime this week. Also joined the arb club. Also have a problem with my pass. side carpet getting wet. Can't be the a/c cause I don't have a/c, it must be the cowl, cause I think it only happens when it rains.

Thanks guys. Other jeep guy at work says its the best money I ever spent on it lol. Speaking of spending money, picked these bad boys up this morning for $175. They're basically brand new. I guess they were mounted, didn't fit, so they took them off and they've been sitting for a little while, which makes sense cause they're discontinued, and covered in dust. Other than a couple gouges on the back side of 1 rim, and some other very minor scratches on the outside lips of all of them from the tire mounting machine, these things are ****ing mint. They came with brand new lugs, too.

Thanks man. I'm really digging them. They're a whole 12 pounds a piece lighter than my other set lol.

So I ripped out my carpet to let it dry out, cause it was soaked and smelled really raunchy. I hung it up on my deck and it had a solid stream of water coming off of it for at least 5 minutes. I have no idea where the water is getting in, I tried pouring a bucket of water inside the cowl, and over the front pass. door, cause thats where I thought it was getting in.
