Pretty sure I'm going to be shopping for a set of front hub bearings shortly. 95k and they appear to have given up over the last couple of weeks. :(

Question to the forum: What brand(s) are good and recommended, and what should I stay away from? I want best bang for the buck, while avoiding stuff that'll leave me watching my wheels roll away 6 months from now.

eBay has 'something' for $50/ea
JCWhitney has 'em no name $75/ea..
Quadratec has 'em "OEM replacement" $130/ea
Timken has what some that appear to be great in writeup (lighter, stiffer, stronger), but sales documents do not reality make.. and they're $140/ea
And Omix-ADA has some for $215/ea

Well, as they say, you get what you pay for. A great man once said to me (my dad), "There is nothing more expensive than cheap tools". This also applies to parts.

My opinion, if you want to keep your Jeep for a long time, buy quality...if you're just trying to get it by, maybe looking to upgrade the item later due to lack of funds, or you are thinking of selling, buy the cheaper quality.

Timkin or SKF bearings are about the best options out there, may cost a little more but worth it.Granted Timkin now has been transfering there operations oversea's so they can be made in china now but SKF bearings are generally made in germany or japan so not low quaility stuff.

How does one know when hubs are going?

I'm going to replace both - though at the moment there's no wobble just from hand-pressure on the wheel. Watching videos and reading diagnostic guides has pretty much convinced me they're going bad.

RockAuto has the Timken units for $120 each. I installed Timken hubs when one of them started to make noise. I replaced both fronts as once one starts going, the other one is probably not far behind it!

Turns out, after an afternoon spent with a friendly mechanic, that it's probably NOT my wheel bearings after all. I have some excessive slop in the CV joint end of my front drive shaft. now I'm looking for a good driveline shop to build me a DC/DC shaft so I can a) service all parts in the future and b) have a slightly more dependable unit to handle the additional off roading I plan on doing.
