just thought it would be a neat idea if someone could start a thread with only pics and info on home mods. write-ups wouldn't have to be included but a link to one would be nice if it is available. if someone likes the idea, start it up!
Oh and I vote for option 2 on the mesh style.Scarfist said:Thinking of making my own Vented Hood.
I am looking at using some sort of metal mesh to replace the sections of the hood that are cut out. It would be painted flat black.
Not sure how i want to install it.
The mesh overlapping the hood, the mesh installed on top of the hood.

The hood overlapping the mesh, the mesh installed from under the hood.
They would be attached with either screws or rivets.
Different metal mesh looks.

Thanks!
Hey Redjeep John can I have a write up on the DIY highline fenders pleaseRedJeepJohn said:I have sent the last week going through nearly every page in this thread. UNREAL fab skills and creativity - some really awesome stuff here. Here are some of my home brew mods...
Pic 1 - 3 Ball, coupler that matches thread pitch on shifter, nut with same thread pitch.
Pic 2 - Drill pressed it out just enough for the coupler. Filled the hole with Liquid Nails and taped off the coupler so that when I put it in I wouldn't get any adhesive into the threads.
Pic 3 - Tapped the coupler in, let the Liquid Nails cure.
Pic 4 - Installed. Nut went on first. Positioned the 3 how I wanted it then counter tightened the nut so that some a$$ walking through a parking lot while I'm getting my groceries can't snag it with out some wrenches
Pic 5/6 - Sub box. Downward firing tens. Stereo build thread - http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f37/tj-stereo-build-1428651/
Pic 7/8 - DIY Hiline Fender mod. Didn't make this technically, but I'm proud of it none the less. This mod, Xenon flat flares and 2" BB cleared 35" meats without an issue.
Pic 9 - Today's carnage. Hope to be able to keep my stereo gear, optima battery, shifter knob, tires, etc. The rule of thumb is if they total it out, anything and everything bolted to the vehicle gets totaled out with it... slick road, swampers, sharp turn...BOOM.

Use the bungees with the balls instead of zip tiesEugeneTheTJ said:I still need to be able to access my rear area which is why I didnt make one for that section. I still think I am going to get safari straps eventually but I needed something to contain my dogs and this seemed like a good solution, at least temporarily.
Thanks though!
Tie your pant leg opening closed if you use it on the road...Let me know what ya think or if you have an questions. Thanks
Awesome. I tried this with a set of pegs off my kids bike but they were too fat. I'm gonna hit the local shop todayJamiller23 said:Been searching online and wanted those Jeepegz but not interested in paying 100+ to get em here so heres what i came up with.
Went to the local Motorcycle shop and picked up these little guys

$30 bucks after military discount ha "MURICA
Went over to Ace, cause they're the helpful hardware place to get the other parts i needed.
3/8 lock washers
3/8 washers (Both in grade 8)
3/8 Rubber washer
1 1/4 X 3/8 (Fine Thread) Grade 5 Bolt
Funny they had grade 8 washers but no grade 8 bolts in fine thread. Oh well its not structural or anything so no big deal.
And the tools i used
Socket wrench
Sockets
40 torx
3/8 drill bit
http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/jamiller23/media/photo3_zpse9bc41d6.jpg.html
Removed the bottom Torx bolt (40 Torx) Go slow and dont strip the threads. That would be a PITA to remove. then drilled it out with a 3/8 bit.

this is how i assembled. threw away the old mounting hardware for the motorcycle since i had all the other shiz. And went bolt->lock washer->washer->pass through to the outside->rubber Washer->Ballin Jeep Peg
http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/jamiller23/media/photo6_zps93b7c19c.jpg.html
Tightened everything down and this is the end result. Not bad for ~$32 bucks
Buttoned UP

If you have a photobucket account, you can just copy and paste the "Img code" from each photo into your post.hcarlgolden said:When I added my sub and amp to my Jeep, I wanted to make it easy to remove incase I had to use the small trunk area for something else. Well the RCA connectors are easy to unplug, but what about the power, ground and remote. I did not want to leave the a live power line or have to always pull the fuse, etc. What I came up with is this, I went to Lowes and in the electrical dept I found a 30 Amp 125/250-Volt Grounding Plug end and the matching female connector. So now in the back of the Jeep is the female end and off the amp is the male end. It has power ground and remote all in one plug. I think amp manufactures should sell something for this exact reason. This works great now when I want my amp back in my Jeep I just have to connect the RCA's and this one plug. Plus it is a twist lock to prevent it from coming undone. I dont have the required 50 posts for pics but when I do I will post them.
What type of filter did you use?hcarlgolden said:Hey man do you have more pics of the gas can holder and basket?
Thanks man! Roof was real simple actually. Only costed a couple pieces of 3/4" conduit I had laying around and some Clevis/Cotter Pins. If you wanna attempt it, PM me and ill take more pics.hcarlgolden said:Dude Awesome Mods. I have a lot of good ideas. You do nice work. Wish my roof folded back like that.
I would love to do this!mgdmeyers said:Thanks man! Roof was real simple actually. Only costed a couple pieces of 3/4" conduit I had laying around and some Clevis/Cotter Pins. If you wanna attempt it, PM me and ill take more pics.

Thanks.....I have seen some really great ones on here.propjockey2002 said:Nice work.
Do you have a picture from the front showing the passenger side knuckle?...Not today, but I made a hybrid Currie/WJ super offset tie rod and end to clear my track bar, diff, and drag link clamp at full stuff and full steering lock. Fun stuff...
You can see the offset end in the bottom of this pic. A lot of working the TRE with a 50 ton press to get that offset in there.
