I thought I would create a new thread for Jeep upgrades and repaires, Jeep trailers and camp trailer, so we don't derail people trying to organize trail runs.
Working on your Jeep or trailer? Share it with others. We all learn a little from other people working on their rigs.

That's why I have been working on the trailer and have made two racks. One on top of the Jeep and one on top of the box in the back of the Jeep. Plus when we built the top for the Jeep trailer, we made that nice and strong and the built the rail around it so we could put stuff on the top and tie it down. I'm make some straps for it right now.

It's 28" X 32". I can build another one the same size and still have room. Don't want too much weight up there though. Don't want more than 100lbs up there. I originally built the basket to fit behind the spare tire carrier, so I kept it small. I haven't devised a mount yet for rear gate. That'll be the next project.

Jimbob....I was thinking the same thing, that that size rack would be good behind the spare tire. When you say "behind the spare tire" do you mean for it to come out of the center of the rim of the spare then stick out behind the spare? I was thinking that might be my next project for another small rack, for an ice chest or a deer or pig.

Something like this but maybe a little smaller. You don't want to put a lot of weight on the spare tire mount.

Yes, something of that nature. I picked up another find yesterday that might add to my plans of storage for the rear gate.

I found one on craigslist with the spout. It had some rust in the bottom of it, so I offered him $10.00 for it and he took it. There is a place in town that will clean the insides out of rust etc. and also do some sort of acid wash to the inside also, making it supper clean so you don't get rust flakes in your gas tank.

Wow I was not aware everybody is after those 5 gal gas cans. I just sold off the ones I had at a swap meet in sac town. two military cans, 2 civilian cans, a flex spout small enough to get past the flapper, 2 military holders, and a couple of lockable steel strap sets.

I've recently been thinking of a removable drawer/shelf setup for the back of the jeep to help keep everything organized and comfortable. I had about an hour to kill and some old scrap wood from another project laying around so I decided to make a rough draft. I figure the trip this weekend will be good to see what works and what doesn't, I already know of a few things that I would like to have done different, but I only had an hour and this is far from the final finished product. I tested it out with a few things that will be going with me and there is still a ton of open space in there!

Well... i jacked up the back of the jeep, blocked front tires, and put it in neutral. Then i took a paper clip and stuck it on the drive shaft at 6 o'clock. I counted the revolutions of the shaft as i spun the tire. Well, now i know..... im running 373's in my differentials. In case im being monitored by someone other than the NSA or homeland security it close to being on topic ...

Putting together an expedition trailer, using a 1988 Packmule as the base. Realize every thread is worthless without pics. It is likely to be a long project given the lack of time available.

Picking it up in gold country, kind of different than other packmule's I have seen in that it has shovel, axe and high-lift jack holders on the front.

The trailer itself

Mocked up the trailer with 35's and pintler rims. This is so I only have to carry one spare.

I looked at just adding shocks to the leaf springs for dampening but decided to go with the Timbren axle-less suspension instead. The parts should be showing up soon, I will also add electric brakes at that time as well. Here is a youtube of the suspension. This suspension adds a 4" lift and extends the spindles to run larger tires. It is built on 3500 lbs spindles but a 2000 lb suspension. I'll go with a lock n roll hitch system once I know how high it will sit.

After the suspension is on, without an axle I am hoping to fit a 18 gallon water tank underneath between the frame rails. If not I'll have to put it inside the trailer. I plan on adding a harbor freight tongue box to hold two batteries a charger etc. to run a pump for the water tank.

The batteries will also run a ARB 50 qt fridge/freezer that will be installed inside the trailer. I got some 3" angle iron and cut it to 48" and bought some heavy-duty 48" slides and will put a deck in so that the entire floor will slide out allowing access to the fridge and other gear inside. Once the deck is in I can see how large of a propane tank will fit to run the stove and hot water shower, etc.

I need to add a top rail system to hold the roof top tent. I'll be going with the Tepui Kukeman Sky model, thankfully they are in Santa Cruz so I can just go drive down and pick it up when I am ready. For the price they offer the best features. http://www.tepuitents.com/models/kukenam-sky-tent.html

I'll keep posting pics as I get significant things done. lowranger yours was the inspiration and thanks for posting the link to the packmule I ended up buying. I will be replacing the rusted jerry cans with Nato style cans and frontrunner holders.

Expedition portal has some real good write-ups of trailer builds that fueled some of the other ideas. Hopefully I'll see you on a run with it someday.
