Heres my shot at a build thread. i never took a lot of pics through the yrs but i will try to get everyone up to date. most of this build thread is from my build over on Wranglerboard.com

I bought my YJ when i was 16 yrs old. almost 9 yrs ago. she already had a 4" procomp lift and some 33" bfg mud terrains. that and the sweet 2" round bumpers were the only mods on it.

i ran that setup all through high school and thought i was on top of the world. my jeep could do anything. i added some lights and some bushwackers flares

when i was 19 i joined the military and moved to Virginia. with multiple deployments to Iraq and non-stop training my 3 yrs there i only wheeled ONCE on the east coast.

right before my only run out there i went out and bought a smittybilt tire carrier so i can have a spare for the trail ride. a couple months afterwards i bought a matching pro comp front bumper and got rid of my tube bumpers.

here i am in Gore, Va

and the new front bumper i bought

rear tire carrier

after 3 yrs on the east coast i begged and pleaded and got stationed in San Diego. once getting out here everthing pretty much went down hill.

within my first month here i bought a welder and started fabbing some stuff up.

my first project was my rock sliders

i wheeled a little around SD and back home in vegas some more then came another deployment. while on deployment i ordered a couple parts and went right to work installing them when i returned Dec 2010.

installed a Warn m8000 winch

Sooooo, I know where there is an aluminum 6.0 very close to you for very cheap..... Would be an awesome match to the tons set-up. You said you would upgrade the driveline when you went to tons.

Just sayin....

And rear ends! Don't forget the Duster ate 7 trans and 6 rears. Hahahaha!

Lookin at shooting to Cape Fear next weekend. Meeting a guy to snag a good trans and going to pull another 8.8 and some other random stuff. You want in?

Today i was outside working on my girls AC in her car, while i was out there I figured I'd pop the cover on the HO72 and see what im working with. This thing is pure BEEF and in PERFECT condition

MMMMmmmmm.....

And look how much i can shave off the bottom

Everything I have read says the HO72 has all the brawn of a 14 bolt in a petite package. Youcan also swap the HO carrier for a 14 bolt locker. Pure win!!

Alot of people complain about the drum brakes being 'only' 12"..... That is stillALOT of brakes for a jeep

#531 ·
Im gonna buy the brackets from Dan at ruffstuff to run disk brakes in the rear.

And so far i think the only thing you can really change over from a 14B is the spiders and shafts. You cant take an ARB or anything that throw it in. But a lot of the HO72s come with a detroit.

got a hair up my butt today and decided to play around on the Jeep for a bit. nothing really needed to be done so i decided to make a removable windshield. When the windshield is removed everything is so much easier to see on the trail.

First thing i Did was remove the lower windshield bolt to be able to fold it down. I actually pulled all of the torx bolts and replaced them with grade 8's.

Then I began to drive out the hinge pin. All you need to do is take a punch and hammer it from the inside out.

you can see the pin in knurled on one end to keep it in place. the pin is 7/16" x approx 3 3/4"-4".

then unplug the wiper motor and remove the windshield

heres a dark picture of it removed. I'll get one with daylight tomorrow

The only thing left to do is buy a pin that will make it quick release. I cant wait to eventually wheel without it.

It'll look a lot better once i rebuild my cage. The A pillar will follow the windshield angle better and therefor look better with the windshield removed as well.

Got to build a chanel into the cage for the bikini top to slide into. Pasty white guys need LOTS of sunscreen, with all the gear and tools you carry I don't see room for a 5 gallon bucket of sun block, can't be getting sunburn on the trail!

Got the removable windshield finished up today. I ran to Tractor supply and got some hitch pins to use. The stock pin you knock out it 7/16". I tried to find a 7/16" hitch pin but they didnt have any, so i snagged two 1/2" pins. I then just drilled out my holes to 1/2" on the hinges.

New removable pins

And some daytime shots sans windshield

This project only cost me $10 total for the hitch pins. :2thumbsup:

Well I've been wanting to rebuild my cage for a long time. I decided Im going to move it up to the top of my list. This will be a pretty expensive project unfortunately so I will hold off purchasing some stuff for my winter project until i can catch up.

The first thing I did was snag the Bend-tech software to help me out. I didnt feel like shelling out $275 for Bend-tech pro so I ordered Bend-tech EZ3D. I know a couple people who use it and say while its not as good as Pro it is still a very good buy.

I also decided to order up some seats. I figured I would give the new Mastercraft Nomad seats a try. The name Mastercraft speaks for itself and the price is perfect. I starting PMing some vendors on Pirate4x4 for some prices, then it occurred to me that sometimes its cheaper and quicker to get things through a major retailer. I hopped on 4WD.com and the seats qualified for free shipping. I also used a coupon code I found online for another 5% off the total purchase. I ended up getting 2 seats for $379 shipped.

Will update when something else meaningful happens :cheers2:

I really dig those seats. Are you going to have to fab up seat mounts or will they bolt up to the stock risers?

#544 ·
Let me know when you want to get started on that cage. I'll bring the beer! Since I will be without work for abit, Iwill have some time to kill. Gonna finish up my rear bumper as well. Let me see what I can do about snagging some tube; what size are you doing the cage?

They do bolt to the factory YJ mounts though apparently. Thats what the description says
Lol I guess I shoulda opened the link first . Thanks for the reply dude those look comfy!

#549 ·
No problem man. And they do look comfy. I hope they feel as comfortable as they look. I imagine they will

Let me know if there is anything else you need. I picked up 6 of the screw mounts from a 7-ton (the ones that hold the bedsides together) off the side of the road. I plan on using 2 for my hi-lift and 1 for the jerry can mount. That leaves 3 extras if you have any use for them. I also snagged some new vents for the hood as well. Got some other goodies hanging around too.....

Soooooo, your boys "stalked" my wife this morning in the jeep. Scared the hell out of her at a stop light and gave her a card. Hahaha, they got a little more than they bargained for when the dog surprised them from the back of the jeep.
Im sure I can find something to use those &-ton screw mounts for.

Yea those "stalker" guys are kinda ridiculous now. The original members are all deployed now so its run by a bunch a JK mall crawlers. They're more concerned about getting as many members on their facebook page as they can and going to the beach every weekend. Pretty gay. There is a select few of us that like to wheel hard. and we're not part of the beach going crowd.

Yeah, with your pastey complexion the beach probably isn't the place for you!

Let me poke around and see what other goodies i have for you. I am going to need some bartering itsms to get use of your tubing bender for my new bumper

#551 ·
:laugh::laugh::laugh:

and you know you can use my bender whenever man. I should hopefully be starting the cage build soon. My seats should be delivered tomorrow and I need to buy some more steel before i start. Maybe next weekend, weekend of the 31. you gonna be available?
