My gf has a liberty and the plastic chrome covers of the wheels were neglected for year before I got in the picture.
I want to clean them up but they are stained black on the inner part closest to the inside if the rim (the 5 spokes are ok) and looking for the best product to tackle the job.
I had looked into replacing them but I have been unable to find replacements for the 17" hubcaps and understand jeep only sells the whole wheel.
Any ideas? It looks like years of brake dust may have corroded them.
It's been a few years but yes. It works like a jewelers rouge. Just don't work with it in direct sunlight. It will dry to fast and it's much harder to get off. Hope that helps
It does work, but omg does it take forever. I'm looking to cut down the work so any other ideas you have please let me know.
We are going to sell these rims / wheels so I would like to clean them up first. The parts I did worked out great but it took so long I moved onto other projects.
Now they are taking up space in my garage so I would like to finish them.
Have you tried bar keepers friend? Is it to aggressive?
I've been using the Fitz on my trucks chrome wheels as it is great stuff. Just no cut with it.
I'd try lacquer thinner in a very small test spot. Put a bit on a rag and rub a small spot and make sure it doesn't damage anything. The stuff is strong but if you don't soak it and then hose it down really well you shouldn't have any problems. It should cut the brake dust fairly quick. I'm sure people will jump all over this but if it were me, that'd be the first can I'd be grabbing off the shelf.... Just remember ..... SMALL TEST SPOT FIRST!!!!
To be truthful if they are the stock wheels with the "chrome hubcaps" I wouldn't spend too much time nor money on them. You're not going to get that much for them anyways
Not being an as* just being honest
