My rims were shot thanks to people who don't take car of them someone took rough sand paper to one and all four had bad oxidation around the center cap my brand new chrome lug nuts were starting to rust as well
You guys turned my on to plastidip I was just going to used it for my emblems but I figured why not try it on my rims since I can peel it off if I don't like it
So I used about 4 cans to do my rims and emblems
Since they were in such bad shape I sanded down all the clear coating off so the plastidip would hold better and so the surface would be smoother and not oxidized underneath
Let me know what you guys think... I did my lug nuts with a 12oz touch up paint of my onix green and clear coated them they chipped a bit because I couldn't let them dry so much but Ikk happy for the results
Looks good. Another tip, if some of it gets scratched off (mounting tires..curbs) you can just spray the spot. You dont even have to tape anything off. Its rubber being over sprayed on to rubber, so it wipes right off the tire. You shouldnt even need to take off the rim.
sorry i had to reset my password and this whole ordeal to get back on here sorry im taking so long to respond
itsparadoxical i used a rough grit to take off the clear coating where it was oxidized but just roughed up the whole rims clear coating with a medium grit and made sure there werent any deep scratches on them then used like a paint thinner to clean them off real well
2000WJ4x4 i like what you did but all my chrome was starting to fade on my emblems so i figured i would black out the whole thing but i like that added touch...do you think that having a lip like that will give it a place to start to peel? i plastidiped the inside of the rim as well to get a full type of seal on the rim plus it gives it much better depth when you really look at it in person.
modded2death- im sorry i dont understand the question or was that intended for 2000WJ4x4
Just to add for plastidip durability, my emblems and wheels stood up to the pressure washer today. I didn't hit em real hard. I'm sure a direct spray from the highest nozzle would peel it but I was surprised I'm not repainting. Thumbs up plastidip dip.
I'm new to the forum, I am going to Plastidip my emblems Flat black in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I can't wait to see how it come out!
