To those hunting for the "niner"

It seems to me, that for one reason or another and based on all the "niner" chatter on this forum, they are much more sought after south of the border, than up here in Canada...

I keep seeing them up here all the time and usually pretty cheap, so I decided that every time I stumble across one of them, I will post the find for you guys...
I realize, that most of you might be too far away, but will post them anyway:

Yes I know...When I was just starting my ZJ research (not knowing anything about them), I accidentally almost bought one...
It looked to be in excellent condition, price was right and the owner made sure not to mention the fact, that its a 5.9 in his ad, so he wouldn't scare away any potentional buyers....

Of course, once I realized what I'm looking at, the conversation came to a grinding halt.....
I think the seller was pretty much expecting it, as he didn't even look surprised....he even offered to knock off another $500 from the already low price of $1500....
I did some quick math and I realized, that in order for me to take it he would have to pay me....I wouldn't want it even if it was free, because of what it would cost me to go back and forth to work just in gas...

A friend of mine has a nice clean 5.9 GC that he never drives any more. Been trying to sell it for over a year now. I think hes asking to much for it.
Its a 98, gray, 4x4, loaded, 149k miles, clean and rust free. He wants $5,995 for it!:confused::hahaha::thumbdown::rolleyes:

Told him hes nuts but he thinks he will get it.
I offered him 2k for it and he told me no.

He said when he drove it every day he averaged 11mpg!:laugh::thumbdown:

I think he will own it for ever at that price.

Good rig but there are way better options out there for 6k.
I bout a 98 4.0 ZJ with 152k on it in great shape for $2,400! And its loaded to!

If you're worried about mileage, you shouldn't own a Jeep, except maybe the Compass

I'm not worried about the mileage of the 4.0....I'm worried about the mileage of the 5.9.
I can deal with 20 MPG, but that is about my limit to what I'm willing to pay at the pump...
I thought that was pretty clear throughout my posts.

I got the Grand Cherokee mainly, because I like the clean and simple square look and the ability to get me through a big snowfall...
I can't stand the new weird alien-spaceship shaped garbage, most manufacturers seem to insist on making these days...
Compass would be a perfect example, as it looks like it was designed by someone who's mentally challenged and blind to boot....

The niner also requires premium pump fuel which only
adds salt to the wound.
Not sure about the US, but up here the difference between regular and premium is about 15 cents per liter...it adds up very fast
Im pretty sure it feels great overtaking another vehicle while pulling a boat, but there is a price attached to that feeling...
Besides there are probably far more suitable vehicles out there for pulling heavy stuff than the ZJ...especially some of the diesel pickups...

You guys are lucky :D Over here where niners aren't too common people are still asking crazy high prices on 'em - even though pretty much no-one wants to daily drive with a niner because of the sky- high gas prices. Average asking prices are ~7500-8500€ (works out to around 10k US$) for ones that are in good condition and relatively low miles.

Considering gas prices at the moment are around 1.60€ / litre (8$ per gallon) for 95E10 and 1.70€ / litre (10$) for 98E5 and Shell V-Power, it's not cheap to drive one. I average around 13mpg for my daily commute to work and back, although I only drive around 20 miles a day for work. Add to that the other driving I do, it's around 600 miles a month -> 46 gallons of fuel -> ~370$ a month for gas

..and people wonder why I try to use the metro and buses as much as possible..

HOLY CRAP...... And I thought $3.75/$3.95 a gallon here was high......

I have a 97 ZJ 4.0, and 98% of my driving is city. (I work 1 mile from where I live, and driving the kids around) I only drive maybe 400 miles a month, and my average is about 13.5 mpg. But when I leg it on the highway I get about 23-25.

No wonder Americans are the only ones who seem to love niners.

There's not too many low mileage (under 100k) 5.9's left. I paid $3,200 dollars a month ago for a silver one with 110,000 mi. It's got some dings and scrapes but overall a good solid truck and everything works. My favorite would have been white, then black, and silver the least but it's growing on me.

In Europe wages are probably triple what they are here?
Average wages, no way. Some countries have minimum wages, ie. here it's something like 7-8$ an hour, working 40 hour weeks you end up with so little money you could hardly pay the rent for a single room apartment with a toilet/ shower, and pay for food here in the capital. You'd be left with absolutely no possibility to own and drive a car.

Average wages depend a lot on the country, but the highest- earning countries also tend to have the highest income taxes, sales tax on goods, etc.. for example here in Finland the avarage wages are about 45k in US$, and Finland is in the highest quadrant in incomes within Europe. I myself make around 90k a year, but my overall tax rate is slightly over 35% - so with all the mandatory expenses in everyday life (and building a house :D ) it doesn't really leave me with too much to spend. Without the house project I'd be looking at getting around 1k extra per month to spend or save.

Finland is among to most expensive countries to live in, as is Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Most of the middle Europe (Germany, Netherlands, France, Belgium,...) wages are roughly the same, but taxes are lower and goods are less expensive so they end up with around 20-30% more to spend.

The one in the second ad is about 140 000 miles when converted from kilometers...
If you bought one with 110 000 miles for 3200, would another niner in similar condition with only 40 000 more miles on the clock really be less than half the money?

I recieved a $3,500 payoff from ins. for my totaled 95 orvis with 152K mi., I needed the vehicle repalced ASAP with another that could tow my boat, pull my camper, and get me through Ohio winters, I just got tired of haggeling, saw it liked it and bought it, a 98 with 110,000 not bad of a trade off IMO.
I didn't realize we were talking kilometers so yea I would have probably jumped on that one for sure.

Sorry for ressourecting an old thread, but was browsing kijiji ads and came across this one:

Figured that some of you guys might like it..... if you convert to US dollars, its probably close to $2500...converting to US miles would be something like 120k?
This guy sounds pretty desperate with his cap locks and exclamation marks, so I'm only guessing you could get it for much cheaper...
