Hey guys, over the next 3 weeks I am planning on rebuilding T176 tranny, replacing tcase seals, replacing u joints, replacing clutch and clutch hardware. This will be my first tranny rebuilt attempt and from what I have read here I think it is defiantly do able on my end. Also planning on painting tcase and tranny, drive shafts, and frame & tub area from engine back to gas tank. Using the Novak rebuilt kit. So its going to be a little project. So my first question is for the guys that have rebuilt the t176 how long did it you to just do the rebuilt from start to finish?

I will post pictures from start to finish along the way.

Project hot summer II kicked off this weekend. Sorry to say jeep working is for the most part done for the summer.

Replaced the laundry room exterior door this weekend. The orignal door was a 1940's wooden thin exterior door. To thin to fit modern locking hardware in and it had a large sheet of glass in it.

Made a hole and found some rot.

Filled the hole.

Next up is re glazing 8 wooden windows and fixing a decent amount of decay in 4.

Nice fix bro. Scott! Take it easy dog! MoC has enough on his plate without you adding to it. A deck would look good there though...

Its the side door that opens up directly to the driveway, so no deck here :-(. The window repairs will be long, hard, and not very rewarding other the just being done. After the windows I have around a 5x7 porch roof to build complete with columns and railings. That will be fun for me. Then just paint the front 2/3's of the house that I didn't do last summer. Basically non stop exterior work for the next 2 months that hopefully will be done before vacation.

As far as vacation goes driving back to Colorado again. Two nine hour days driving there, 2 nights in Durango, a day in Ouray, then 6 nights in Aspen, two 9 hour days driving back. While there I have 2 days of jeeping planed. The stop in Ouray is to go on a 1/2 jeep tour with San Jaun Jeep tours. They are going to take up to Yankee Boy Basin . Later while in Aspen we are going to do our second jeep trip. Going to head up to Leadville and drive up Mosquits Pass .

Buddy, I know the feelin'. I want/need to move into this-

The new Mrs. MoC mobile showed up yesterday. Still fighting the insurance company over the value of the Pilot. Allstate sucks! They have been shady in their handling of this and I decided to drop them as my homeowners carrier.

Jenns working this weekend so I'm home with the kiddos. I got my lasted purchase of Jeep dealer catalogs in today.

:2thumbsup:

We are excited Jim. A little more time and 2 jeeping days.. Cant wait.

Nice! 6 or 8 cyclinder? My '04 is still going strong. How does Jenn like it?

Edit: I just realized that is a Sequoia so I'm sure it has a V8. That's a big ride...
5.7L gas sucking monster. It get 6mpg less than the Pilot which already was not great. Jenn wanted to be in something big in case of another accident. She only drives around 8500 a year so its around $800 more a year in gas. It was down to it or another Pilot. I preferred the Pilot, but happy wife happy life..

Hey MoC. Be careful with removing that window glazing. A lot of the old glazings had asbestos in them.

Sent from my iPhone using JeepForum
Thanks for looking out sir!

If you have two rears that are close matches to each other PM me a price. I live in western NC zip 28741. I will have some other parts on the list. In your vast travels you ever run into J truck parts? If you do, I need a few things.

Oh yeah, I know the Sequoia is huge, just comparing the current gen 4runners to the old 4runners though. The new 4runners are a lot bigger. Still not as big as the Sequoia though.....

Toyota Sequoia is manafactured in Princeton, Indiana.
Honda Pilot is manafactured in Lincoln, Alabama.

Some Fords are made in Mexico...

Seems to me that they are contributing to the American workforce..

Just saying...

I sold cars and my buddy in the biz tells me when I need a new one 'cuz he stold a trade. My wifey likes here Sequoia Limited. She likes the leather, nav, dvd, and I like the height controller for hooking up trailers, mighty handy. Having said that, she liked her base 2004 Ford Expedition XLT more. Plus Ford is offering CRAZY money in rebates, factory to dealer money etc. I like the locking rear on the Toyota and central locking T-Case. But not at $125-175+/month more! Toyota won't deal at all!
My 2 cents

When spending $45k + on a SUV I am going to go with the best value and not limiting myself to by looking at American auto manufactures only. (Even though we have already determined that this SUV is made here in the USA.) Fact of the matter is the Toyota's and Honda's hold their value longer than any of the American SUV's. Also to get a comparable SUV in the American market I would have to spend $55k+.

Personally I will never buy another Ford again. Although my 05 F-150 gets the job done it has really soured my mouth to design defects with that generation F-150.

-I have been through 3 stock radios. The CD's get jammed. Searching it is a common problem.
- I have been through 5 window regulators. The break and the window falls down in to the door. Another design defect that the service departments admits. I have talked to several people with this generation F-150 and have have the same problem.
- I paid $500 to replace the spark plugs. The factory design is defective, again well documented. They are a 2 piece plug and other break off in the head.
- Lastly I have recently developed a upper end tick. Yet another documented problem with the 5.4L V8. The cam phasers prematurely fail. Basically they sling oil to the cam and top end. As they fail they dont lub as well and a tick develops. Like our 258's some will go years with the tick. Eventually they will throw a low oil pressure code. $2500 fix from the dealer.

Never again a Ford...

We had a man in a Chevy Suburban run through a 10 foot high fence and slam into guardrail we had surrounding a 250 gallon propane tank at my work. He had to be going 40-50 mph when he wrecked. While I was watching the wrecker pull the vehicle out, I commented to the paramedics that I noticed the Air Bag did not deploy. This was his reply word for word. "Yep, it's a Chevy. That is why all of us paramedics drive Fords".

I'm still loving my 03 F150 Triton V8. I live 25 minutes from the Honda plant. They provide A LOT of the jobs in my area. Half my friends would be unemployed without that plant and its subs. I still think they are morons though in their plant scheduling. The people working on the line have to work a swing shift. 2 weeks days and 2 weeks nights on constant rotation. Ruins just about everyone's life that works it that I know. But they do it for the pay and to have a job.

I've had several Ford trucks, including my current '01 F150, 5.4. I have had a single spark plug issue. 205,000 miles on it and just installed a Jasper tranny. My son has my old '97 F150. It has 260,000 miles, but it is the 4.6. No issues except one window motor. I have had several Chevys, including the Astro. It has 226,000 miles on it. Tranny rebuild 5 years ago, but it pulled a 22' flats boat and a family of 6 for a dozen years. No issues with any of the Chevys either. Now, I have had a Rodeo that soured me from ever owning another Isuzu, but so far, all of my American cars and trucks have been great.
