OK, had a discussion with someone today about getting a "new" vehicle and I was told that there is a difference between the Cherokee and a Grand Cherokee.
I thought that they were the same. (eg. All Cherokee's are Grand Cherokees.
Duhhhhhhhh....please advise.
Thank you.

RJ= Real jeep ha ha, its a huge pet peve of mine when im looking for xj stuff and every time i see an ad for cherokee "pick your part" and it ends up being a grand. an cherokee is nothing like a grand cherokee the grands tend to have more of your luxury type options and are a bit larger, had option for a v8 simply google it and you will see what the differences are, ive owned both and like my xj way more it rides a little stiffer but has been 1000x more reliable and goes places my zj only wished it could have.

Grand Cherokees have COIL SPRINGS at each wheel. Cherokees (XJs) have LEAF springs on the rear wheels.

Grand Cherokees can come with a V8, and have different interior and exterior designs.

And I MAY be mistaken about this, BUT, didn't Grands more often than not have the FULL time case and XJs the PART time case (more often than not)??

as far as i know, there were only three motors offered in xj's: 2.5l 4 cyl( i know they were used at least to 95), early models had a 2.8 v6 chevy motor, then the 4.0l 6 cyl. zj's: 4.0 was the smallest, then they had a 5.2 v8(318 ci?) and for one year even had a 5.9 v8(360 ci?) the wj was the next model grand(that is where they went from one big, usually dull or yellow, headlight on each side to a more rounded double style. i think they also had an option for a 4.7 v8, but don't quote me on that. the zj and wj both have a lot of creature comforts to them and run down the interstate a little better then the xj, but the zj's have a lot of electrical gremlins that will pop there head up and make the lights do stupid things. xj's are generally cheaper and have a ton more aftermarket support.

fugly '14 cherokee

do sub contract work for the big 3 job shops and had the misfortune of working on one of these turds. told everyone within earshot that this bastard child was NOT a cherokee and who the hell names this crap? a guy came walking over and all the shop guys scattered. he started asking me why i thought it didn't deserve to be called a cherokee. i then proceeded to give a laundry list of reasons why from the turd engine to the useless awd sissy crap transfer case to the lack of ground clearance to the weinie axle's etc. he then told me about all these offroad tests that they had put this thing thru and how it had beat out full size 4x4's and would go place's where other 4x4s would be afraid to go. i said bulls%*t! you got a small berm behind the building that pos would have a hard time climbing let alone crossing over without getting hung up. well he said he was gonna prove me wrong and told the guys to pull it out back and wait for him. big shot jumps in and tries to cross this small hill (about 4' tall and 6' wide at the base) and hangs it up! laughing my *** off i tell him i'll go get my'97 to pull him back to this side. i then proceed to cross over same hill in 2wd forward and reverse to show him what a REAL cherokee is. come to find out he is the lead designer on that platform and was not pleased with my calling him out. have heard whispers that they may be re-thinking using the cherokee name but it is all hearsay...

You, sir, should be hailed as a hero. Even if Jeep continues with their ludicrous idea of calling it a Cherokee, I will forever remember that at least someone, somewhere, stood up for the Cherokee name and did not back down in the face of arrogance and stupidity. I am impressed that you were actually able to state your case to this guy AND he let you show him up! Kudos, sir.

I was mistaken but here is my logic behind calling them 'Mercedes'

"At one time Mercedes did own Chrysler from 1998 to 2007 when it sold it interest to a private equity firm in New York."
And now Fiat. What is happening to our beloved 4x4s... traded like simple baseball cards to the highest bidder :(

Also my "AH HAHAHAHAHAA" Inserted here

"-> Mercedes never owned over 49 % of Chrysler, but unfortunately Fiat now owns 51 %. So they are destroying the name Chrysler and Dodge in Europe and sell Chryslers as Lancias (cars with a very very very bad reputation in Europe and only bought by Italians) "

Lancia's were never good to begin with. Anyone want to start a pool on who buys Chrysler/Dodge next?

Technically is was a merger between AG-Daimler (Mercedes) and DaimlerChrysler. Wasn't a good move for Mercedes which was publicly stated by Mercedes.
