Project REDLYNER: Ultra4 Race Jeep Driven Daily...

EDIT: VillagePhotos has crashed, taken their customers money and lost all of their pictures. This means roughly 1,000 pictures in this thread are now dead links. I switched to a new server and pictures start back on page 99. SORRY!!

Pics start back:

This is way late in the game to start a build thread, so it is not a from scratch build.

I'll try to give a little back ground on the jeep and the build so far-

Number one, I have one of the most understanding wives out there. Not only does she support most of the mods, but she talks me into higher quality parts when I want to normally go cheap.

Number two, I bought this TJ when I lived in Colorado and immediately got addicted to rocks. But more importantly, addicted to the slick Rock in Moab. Every single mod on this rig was built or added with Moab trails in mind. So to keep this thread from being too wordy, I'll start throwing out some pics.

I bought the Jeep with a Rubicon Express 3.5" lift and 33"s. It had never been offroad according to the previous owner and after I inspected it, I was pretty convinced he was telling the truth. Not a spec of dirt in anything underneath the rig and not a scratch to be found. I think I got a deal.

This is a multi-stage build. Each stage represented taking to the next level of trail difficulty.

Pictures were not that great until like 2009 when we got a nice camera...

Here is a short recap of stage 1:

Day I brought it home back in 2006- I almost broke the Dana 35 because of the amount of Armor All on it:

Stage one was getting this thing so I could recover myself and be recovered. Also need to protect the easiest areas to damage- so the short list was:

Warn Rock Sliders
Warn Front Bumber
Warn Winch Mount
Tow Hooks
ARB Shackles
Warn M8000 Winch
Auburn Front Selectable Locker and install kit
Uniden CB
Kilby Gas Tank Skid

The 4 Wheel Parts show and local 4x4 board made it pretty easy to get some smoking deals:

And on went the first round of mods:

Bumper and winch:

Gas tank off, new tank on:

With the armor on, CB in and Auburn Locker front locker installed, it was time to go play in Moab:

I was going to go with them, but on the site it looked like two pieces, or there was a weld seam or something in the middle. I so I went with the GenRights.

Just goes to show my lack of creativity, I didn't even think about grinding it down. I'm happy with the Gen-Rights though, after painting was finished it took like 10 minutes to install.

Also, while nothing is posted in the for sale sections yet, parts are starting to be claimed. Once my quote gets back, I'll have the Currie/Ironman steering for sale and the rear Rubi 44 axle with ARB, Alloy 4.88s and Alloy USA shafts for sale (rear axle ready to be picked up today).

Lots of action and rumors swirling in the REDLYNER Racing camp....... The next 12 weeks could prove to be very exciting. :D

First up, I received my racer packet for the next event I am planning to compete in. I nearly fell out of my chair when I read it: entry fee is twice as much as KOH EMC  Because of this I have to be a little more serious about the logistics, but assuming I can get everything in place, I plan on racing (rain or shine this time). Tons more details to follow.

2 weeks from the day I order it..... Possibly 2 weeks from today? I just keep waiting on a "deal".

Where is the first race at?
Snowshoe, West Virginia. East Coast Pro Rally Race with roughly 165 miles of rally racing on forest and fire roads (full throttle all out) and 360 miles of staged timed racing (given a time to get from point A to point B on public roads- penalized if early, penalized if late).

I spent a half hour on the phone today with the NASA Rally president getting all of the details and trying to convince him to let my jeep in. I already don't qualify because of my seats. Mastercraft doesn't put out FIA certified seats (for auto racing, hard crash crumpling), so I have to have a waiver for that. Trying to find out if anything else is glaring. I submitted a build thread email detailing the safety requirements for Ultra4 and the below pictures:

That was the wife with it. I hardy get to drive the rig in the warm months because she takes it downtown to work nearly everyday. What were you doing on Foggy Bank?

I have (or had) 2 more races on my calendar to run rain or shine. The first one is at the end of July and the jeep is prepped and ready to go for it. However I got an email on Friday from my boss asking me to train a new guy and drive him around North Carolina and Virginia the week of the race. I told him about the race and while he said I could do it, I'm really the only guy that could train this dude on the East Coast. Soooo.....

There is another ECORS race 4th of July weekend, but it is at Devils Playground and they race through a muddy creek- which 20 laps through it turns it into a swampy muddy mess. That takes a lot of the fun out of it for me, so I usually just watch that one from my computer. So far this year the 4 races in the South East that have taken place have all been in the nastiest rainy conditions I have ever seen, ALL FOUR! The guys who have run some of them are still pressure washing their rigs.

Also working on the next short movie for my "true to character" Mall Crawler build on Pirate. If you haven't seen it.... it's worth the read.
Ultimate Mall Crawler

Right now the jeep is driving better than it ever has. My wife and I argue nearly every morning on who takes it to work . My son begs to ride in it every day to the gym, so really I am just enjoying the hell out of it. It's tight in the corners so I get to sling it around like a Lotus Elise, so there is no getting bored. I do however have the monster itch to nerf every Honda Accord and Toyota 4Runner, so maybe I need to sign up for another event.

The mod list is still on going, but they are more big boy mods and take a while longer to save for. Hopefully I can have some good updates soon- right now I am waiting on a quote to get started on solving what knocked me out of the EMC :)

In the mean time.... I gave my son's Crawler the REDLYNER treatment:

Body off-

Stickers off and sanded down-

Primed white :D-

2 layers of primer, 2 layers of Stone White REDLYNER Racing white, 3 layers of clear coat-

Sticker charged and back together! I stole some of my wakeboard stickers for the RC-

Seems to me you got served on Pirate lol. You are loosing your touch there buddy

Your screws are rusting.......you just lost some bling factor points brah, they should be white or chrome for optimal flatbiller status, stainless if for posers...

Hahaha. I know, and now that you have called me out, I'll have to go get some stainless bolts .

Art- can't wait to get the chromelyner back out to Cali, I just have to figure out how to delay Mike's monster build so he would have to ride with me.

Toyota Really?

So your swapping out the MTRs for nittos wrapped around some XDs,kings for Fox, and some Toyota axles.

 That's a pretty good guess. Funny as hell, but I can assure you the wife would never let me get rid of the F9 unless something else came out that she thought was cooler and got us more mall crawler cred :D.

Speaking of which, my rear axle sold, and now I am just waiting on the final pieces of the front RA9 axle to be figured out (steering), then that can go on order.

I'm thinking he bought a tow rig since he ordered a 24' trailer. :shhh:
Actually, you are the reason I canceled my 24' trailer order. I made a noob towing mistake with the original trailer order- while I selected one long enough to tow two TJs similar to yours, it wasn't near stout enough (7000lbs- realized you had a much stronger equipment hauler). After that, before re-ordering, I did some more research and basically concluded that I was getting into semi-truck trailer length and decided it was just too much. So I went with a 20' that should be long enough for a TJ and a UTV for the wife.

Believe it or not, I actually prefer pulling my 25' goose neck over my 16' pull behind. It is a much smoother ride, even with 2 Jeeps on it. The length isn't a big issue either, turning radius is still decent with the goose neck. Plus you have the option of splitting fuel with a friend when hauling 2 Jeeps.

Hoping this makes the long hauls a bit easier:

Tundra CrewMax 4x4

XD 810 20" wheels and 34" Nitto Grapplers arrive on Tuesday and Fox coilovers arrive on Wednesday. Predator rock sliders should be here Wednesday as well. Should be a fun 4th of July getting these on for the weekend Myrtle Beach trip. First car I bought for myself in 8 years, I'm pretty pumped :).

This is all for the Tundra? Haha it's a badass truck but why does it need coilovers?
