Keep XJ or get camaro??

Hey, for some time i have been pondering this.

I wish to sell my 01 cherokee, and get a camaro, (rs or z28, more preferably the z). My insurance would actually go DOWN (idk how that works) if I did this..also id be getting slightly better mileage, even with the z28, this is because i will be driving to college soon and cant do the jeep's 11-4 city/20 highway, compared to the 16-17 city/ 23-26 highway with the z (if i keep off it ;) and even better with the rs option) oh and if it helps the year of the camaro would most likely be 98-02

My problem is that every time I see a lifted cherokee i think twice about selling it, and then i'm torn since I love the jeep, but really want something with a little batter gas and that ill use more (since i really dont offroad as much as I thought i would), and is a nicer highway cruiser.

Things to consider:
If i keep the jeep, im lifting it. 3" with 30's or 31's, which id be getting even less than that 14/20 ratio
I really don't offroad that much
I would get more use and fun out of the camaro on the road
My family does have a car I could use for the winter months if I needed it

So thats that, should I keep the jeep? or sell it and buy a camaro??

Any comments questions or concerns are appreciated!

Thanks

Not a clue man, I traded my 06 CBR 600RR straight across for it. Was a killer deal, I only drove the car a few times and gave it to my dad. His favorite car is a Camaro and he used to build engines back when he was in a High School and used to street race. It was kind of a throw back I guess for him, I originally traded the bike for the car to make more money but I couldn't sell the car when I found out how much he liked it. The car is fast as hell though, I'd have been worried racing my bike against it. If he could get traction that is

Didn't read the hole thread just a few posts on the first page. Let me say my dream car is a 70 split bumper. I love them! I forget what year it was, but a white split bumper on the show "pinks" raced a orange nova...love it. Love em all in that style but would prefer a 70.
Now the jeep, or a truck ect. It's more practical. If you get caught in rain, snow, mud, whatever. Your not going to want to put your street car through it. I always thought and was told like this growing up, "a car is fast, handles good but what else? A truck/jeep can be made fast, can be made to handle and can still be used for anything else." I use my jeep as a daily driver. I use it to wheel, take my daughter where ever. Fishing, camping, beating Hondas & quite a few other things stop light to stop light(stroker motor:D). It's an investment, I only wish I had a frame and a bed. When the jeep dies ill be buying a older straight axle burb. 35s, 60/14ff, cummins swap eventually. Basically a bigger, stronger version of my jeep with a diesel :D more room to sleep in the back if needed, more gear room ect.

If I owned a car it would be fast, loud, and be driven like race car most the time. It will get me in trouble more, waste more of my money & loose time with my family by loosing our monthly camping & fishing trips. In all reality tires would probably cost the same, maintenance would be close to the same, gas as well. Fast, high performance cars don't get that great of mileage. My jeep on its lift, locked axles, 33x10.5s, roof rack ect ect gets 16-17 in the city & 19-20 highway consistently. 4.56s, 5 speed. 60-65 mph cruise. It's a monster with the gearing & motor..2300rpm and a stroker is great for cruising. Yes its corrected, GPS for speed, hand calculated.

Hey everyone! Just figured i'd give you guys an update! So i've decided to possibly be selling my jeep again, but not for a camaro this time...but for another jeep xD. Im looking at getting a Wrangler (YJ or TJ) or an XJ (98+)...what are some pros and cons? Obviously the big ones like doors off and top down on the wrangler, and the XJ's lack of that, but having more space and a sturdier ride on the highways in return. I do know im missing a lot to take into consideration though....I would be taking this truck to college (hopefully) up in geneseo, which is in the rochester area, also to the albany region a few times during the summer....what do you guys think? Also, my XJ is pretty much bone stock except for a CB radio, new speakers and a brush guard. So after I sell it, the jeep i'd buy would already have a lift and tires on it (at the least). Thanks again guys!

Rochester is bone dry as far as Cherokees go, but has plenty of Wranglers. For what it's worth, I went Cherokee - > Wrangler - > WRX and now I'm trying my best to get back in a Cherokee. I loved the Wrangler but honestly I never got to use the doors off etc a lot, because you don't wanna leave it in a school parking lot like that.

Well i don't live in Rochester, I live on Long Island, I just go to school up there at Geneseo haha. And well thats true, but at the same time, since up up at school and its always cold, the doors and such would stay on hahaha....so its just spring and summer that the doors are off lol. But I do agree with the parking lot statement,

Wranglers are quite impractical compared to XJs. Really, how often will you be removing the top and doors? Yes, the Wrangler has a true frame, but that's only an advantage for the very rare people for whom the XJ's extremely strong uniframe isn't good enough. Wranglers can't tow as much, have less space, get same or worse MPG, and have a worse road ride/handling.

You seem to be dissatisfied with your XJ since you keep looking for other vehicles; grass-is-greener syndrome perhaps?

#42 ·
Not really, It not that im dissatisfied, I'm just trying to find an Xj that might be better than mine...also cause I get 12.5 mpg on almost stock everything, and everyting is up-to-date, (except for a slight alignment i think, but it cant affect the mpg THAT much, can it?) so with that, a lift would drop my mpgs to **** cause i dont have the $$ to re-gear (and deal with everyihng else that could occur after a lift, especially with my luck haha) so id just get a new xj thats already lifted.....Live i said, id love to keep my jeep, but its either i keep it stock and keep it, or sell it, and have a new XJ that has work done to it. Its just a thought really.

And to your wrangler comment, summer and fall, as long as i am not keeping a ton of crap in the car, id have the doors and top off all the time, although I do agree with the mpg and ride quality, so i would have to bring the family's liberty up to college with me, but idk...alhough as it seems wranglers are hellof alot ore expensive than XJs...so we'll see lol

Trust us, you won't have the doors off nearly all the time, especially not during winter or cool months. We all think we will, but it never happens. And Geneseo is a nice area, but you won't want to leave it in top down doors off mode while in class all day. It's a bad idea

Yeah I agree with the in class statement, and also, what do you exactly mean by high schooler style driving? I do like the power of the truck, but i dont romp on the gas to the point where it'd affect mpg's.....and nothing is mechanically wrong, oil changes done when needed, and everything is in good orger...only think i'd say is that i think i need a slight alignment (it pulls to the right after not holing the wheel for a few seconds) and i think i need a new wheel bearing ( i think..its like a whirring noise that correlates with my speed) so would those 2 things affect my mileage THAT much?? Also, I do get 20 on the highway, my city is just horrible, and I do basically like 90% city with it
