im looking to replace my warn manual hub but i cant find anything for them. I asked if other 5x4.5 hubs would work and the sales guy said no is that true? i have a dana 30 with 27 spline count. if you know where i can locate some it would be greatly appreciated.
www.ringpinion.com. Randy's Ring & Pinion is who bought the Warn line of manual hubs, though you may get frustrated trying to find someone at Randy's who knows much about them. If you can figure out the Warn part numbers you need, you may have better luck finding them on the internet like via Google's shopping website at www.froogle.com.
Last summer when I blew my hub, I called Randys and gave them the number for the hub (37780). They had it in stock and shipped it out the same day. I did have to purchase the hubs in pairs.
i bought part number 37780 from amazon for 204 and it fit like a glove . . . thanks for the help. I've been looking for that part number for some time. It came in a pair since i didnt need the whole kit since my spindle washer and axle retainer were the only things broken.
Carrying a spare hub for that particular (aka "small") hub is a good idea, it can be swapped in seconds if it breaks while offroading. I did when I ran the small Warn hubs as that model # is.
Trust me, you won't want to. I developed a steel body hub with a drive flange and never turned it into a product when testing showed the carnage it can cause.
I'd never seen broken small hub kit stub shafts until we installed that kit on several rigs. I think out of 5 kits I sent out and or installed, all but one killed stub shafts and spindles.
What is the minimum wheel center diameter that is needed to run this? I thought I had found it somewhere in my research but can't locate the data again. Can someone confirm if they will work with my wheels and spacers? I am ok if I need to remove the spacers, but I want to know before I purchase.
I got rid of my small hub kit when I went to 35" tires after breaking both outer stubs at Moab (on 33's) and then 2 hubs within 20' of each other at Rausch Creek, on 35's. They are fine for small tires, I think recommended is up to 32" tires, but not strong enough for anything more, if you want locking hubs get the big hub kit, it means changing to a 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern but it's the only way to go for the strength.
I think I am out on this mod. It would be nice but with what I have heard, 35s might be to big for this plus I would have to remove the wheel spacers and then I would have more problems. Thanks all who have helped.
I'll start looking for a used big hub kit and new wheels.... :highfive:
I ran 37s and 38s on the kit! I never really pushed it hard. Plus the terrain around where I live is very forgiving (sandy soil).
Most will say it's impossible that I ran the small hub kit with my size tires and never blew up anything. Only probs I had was the inner seal
giving up on me during a long day in the mud and water, which led to the inner bearing going out and wallowing out the wheel hub.
I to run 35's and the small 5x4.5 kit with a hp 44 and chromo axles, ARB. Havent wasted anything yet except for occational 760x joints. You want the hub to go 1st. Common sense.
FYI after having to replace several parts on the hub kit due to accidentally losing some parts while doing an axle swap (don't ask) I found that warn p/n's are void.. Yukon has since bought it out and I sent Stu Olsen a link to the pdf to share with everyone. Here is the pdf link to his site for all of the components to the hub kit, both 5x4.5 and 5x5.5... http://www.stu-offroad.com/axle/hubconv/Unit_Bearing_JEEP.PDF
Thank you for above post @brokenyoujoint . ^ Need some part numbers off of there.
