A 60th Anniversary (2001) Edition or a Sport 4.0?

Hi guys,

I am not sure if the 2001 TJ 4.0 that I am shortly going to buy, is a 60th Anniversary (2001) Edition or a Sport 4.0 model. It does not have a Dana 44 at the rear and has manual transmission. What are the distinguishing marks between the two?

Cheers!

Curious, 60th anniversary edition of what? Wranglers were only 14 years old in 2001. The Jeep trademark was only 51. The Jeep was discontinued 15 years before. The Chrysler / Jeep company was only 14 years old. What was 60 years to signify?

Actually Mike, the MB is a Jeep. The first version of the 45 year run. The MB/CJ is the only vehicle that is officially named the "Jeep" model. All others were called something else. Even before they named a company after it.

I can buy the Jeep name as being the reason but then why was the wrangler the only model to have an anniversary edition and not the cherokee and others? Or maybe I'm mistaken there and that's my confusion. Just makes no sense, but then again it's chrysler.:dunno:

Jeep was just a nick-name given to a vehicle with a boring military designation. Willys-Overland trademarked 'Jeep' in 1943 for their post-war vehicles based on the MB.

Take a look at every vehicle made under the Jeep name. Which ones resemble the MB. Hint: its the ones with factory removeable doors and top.
MB→CJ→Wrangler (YJ→TJ→Jk→...)

Okay, that makes more sense. It's about the name not the vehicle.

Mike - Actually they didn't trademark the name till 1950. The company came later.
Not sure what you meant by the second paragraph, but to answer your question:
"Which ones resemble the MB."
Only the CJ version, since it was just a modified MB for non military use. The Wrangler (and it's versions) is a totally different vehicle first introduced in 1987 by AMC to fill the void / niche left by the Jeep.
