Just how loud are they exactly? Ive been wanting to get an aussie, but this is the one thing that may be stopping me from buying it lol i wish i knew someone that had one installed nearby so i could see for myself.
There's a couple videos on youtube , search for Aussie locker Test" or a similar term . There is a test you do where you spin the tires upon installation to check everything works. Anyway you can hear the clicking in that video and Imo it is very similar to the actual noise. In general around coastin turns when you're already moving it's totally reasonable and only clicks once or twice, but if you're turning from a dead stop at a 90 degree turn or more it's quite loud, U-turns are fun
I had it exactly 6 month's. I would actually consider putting it in again sometime down the road (although I really think I'd just save for a Limited slip) because once you've installed one and removed one it's very easy, takes about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Performance wise they are incredible and you feel unstoppable.
The reason I took it out is like I say ...the noise. It's also because I only go offroad as a solo vehichle and many times it's by myself so I thought long and hard and decided it could potentially get me stuck very far offroad due to the increased capabilities. I'm getting older and a long walk (I've been stranded before overnight) is nothing I want to encounter. My wheeling is camping, backcountry exploring , etc. and I figure I'll go where I can go since evrything has a limit. I'm quick disconnected in front and I figure with mud tires I'll be able to go 90 percent of the places I could locked ( I went a few places with the Aussie where I really had no business going alone). FWIW in s. AZ my four wheeling season is Fall and winter so I took it out on average once evry other weekend...quite a bit in 6 month's. In fact I even took it to Death Valley from Tucson , so it's seamless enough to do long trips. It's just around town day to day where it can get on your nerves. Being a realist I figured I spend more time daily driving than off roading and I think I off road more than most.
TL/DR....It's an incredible performance addition, pretty much doubles your capabilities but the noise will probably evetually get to you.
