I need help in setting up my sound system.
I recently purchased a head unit "Alpine CDE-HD138BT" and would like to hook up my sub-woofer. I am having trouble finding the right amplifier. In the future I would like to purchase some speakers front and rear with a watt range of 75 each. I am not sure of what kind of amplifier to purchase as far as a 4, 5, or mono amp. There are links provided below to my equipment. My Alpine sub-woofer is 50-200 watts and has 4 ohms. How would I connect this set-up to a 4 channel amp if I were to purchase 75 watt speakers front and rear and what kind of amp am I looking for? Help is greatly appreciated. :2thumbsup:

Depends on your budget.

Check out the Rockford Fosgate R600-5. It's a 5 channel amp. 4x50 + 200x1 at 4 ohms. It's about $200 on amazon. That and a basic 4 gauge wiring kit with a couple of extra RCAs if you want control over fade and sub output from the head unit. Or just the one RCA cable and control your balance on the amp.

If your budget is more, there's a 5 channel digital amp made by alpine that I considered getting. Expensive but stays cool and is small (big plus in a jeep.)

Hope that helps. I just spent the last 3 months putting together my system so it's relatively fresh in my mind.

that is true. Then if I wanted to hook up my front and rear speakers, I could add another amp. But, that would take up to much space. I very new at this and pretty confident that I can hook everyone up myself, but finding the right amp and matching this and that is a pain. LOL :ballchain:

I was checking out these 2 amps and was trying to find a difference.

They are both class D amps. But I really dont see any difference. What is the difference between a Class D amp and A/B amp?

I also found another link for the Rockford-Fosgate-P1000X5D:

So I figured out what I am going to do in the meantime with my system. I'm going to go with the Alpine MRP-M500 mono amplifier to only power my sub-woofer. The reason why I chose this amp is just to keep my audio system basic right now without the headaches of worrying if I get an amplifier with 5 channels and want to replace my sub-woofer with something much higher/stronger in watts later on as I keep adding to my system, I would have to keep replacing my amp and so on etc....Seems like 2 amps would do the job if you want to power your front and rear speakers and with the other amp to power a much higher sub (500-1000w) compared to using one amp. I just hate the fact that 2 amps would take up a lot of space. What do you fellow Jeepers think???:club::banana::popCorn:

Class A/B amps are less efficient but produce less harmonic noise. They will be larger and generate more heat per watt output. You will find many multi channel amps for non subs are of A/B design.

Class D amps are significantly more efficient, but the way they amplify can introduce a lot of harmonic distortion. These harmonics tend to be higher frequency that a sub does not reproduce, so you won't hear them. Subwoofer amps are almost invariably class D or a D hybrid.

I am having a hard time finding a place to ground my wire. Everything in there seems to be plastic except for that metal piece behind the coin box (ash tray, whatever). Anyone else have this problem or suggest anything?

Does the factory side harness have a ground wire, typically black? I tend to ground the headunit to the factory supplied ground through the adapter harness to ease any future removal. While not familiar with the WJ, the TJ radio is grounded not too far away on the body anyway. The factory unit had to have a ground somewhere, it is just a matter of finding it.
